Another Tahoe build. HUGE front stage and 155 substage

Recommended Posts

I've never done a build log before so I'll start at the beginning stages of the truck when I got it a little over a year ago. Don't mind all of the for sale pictures. I almost never take pictures of my equipment when I get it and I've gone through alot of amps with this truck

Current equipment in the truck.

Pioneer 80prs

2 PRV TW450ti super tweeters

2 10" Beyma 10mi100

PPI 900.4

2 18" Sundown Zv3's with NSv2 softparts

AQ2200

Upgrades in progress.

6 PRV TW450ti tweeters

6 Hurricane 10E 10's

Taramps HD8k for 10's

Taramps HD8k for each sub

4 Singer 350's

Here's the truck and the very first thing I did was put a Pioneer 80prs in it

First setup was a 4th order with 2 SA15's that I took out of my honda civic.

It wasn't nearly as loud as I expected it to be so I quickly traded the box and subs for a 18" FI SP4

I picked up a spare set of door panels and got to work on the front stage. Before this, I never touched fiberglass in my life. There were ALOT of lessons learned with these

I packed the back with fiberglass

I started to do the bodywork myself but lost my patience and decided to pay someone else to finish it, which turned out to be a huge mistake because he pretty much ruined the doors (where I left off below)

To save on some wire, I bought a little distribution block from Home Depot and bridged the 10's right under the center console and also ran my remote in, then 2 remote wires out

While I was doing the doors, I got rid of my SP4, which was the worst sub I ever owned, and bought an 18" Sundown Zv3. I cut off the slot port of the SP4 box, plus a few inches to shrink the box down and threw in a 8" aero

Fast forward a couple weeks, my front fuse popped and I didn't know it. My rear battery drained down to 8 volts before I realized there was a problem and the former got soo hot, it swelled up and the sub eventually locked up

I picked up another Zv3 from the Yardsale but this one had NSv2 softparts so I threw that into the box and put the blown sub to the side

Up until this point, everything was ran off a Popcorn 2500. This amp is hands down the best amp I've ever owned. I ran that bitch down to 8 volts and NEVER quit

At some point I picked up a couple of JL 1000/1's and a 10W7 off a crack head. I got rid of the Popcorn and put in one of the JL's for the meantime.

Bought a Sundown SAZ2500

Traded that for a pair of AB 150.1's but only got to use 1 of them

I finally got around to getting the recone for the blown Zv3 I had and built a box for them. 8 cubes tuned to ~35hz with a 10" aero

Met someone local who had a SPL Labs meter and played around for a few hours trying to find where the truck peaked and what it liked and didn't like. This was done on one of the AB150.1's

Shortly after that, I got scammed for both of the 150.1's so I picked up something cheap just to get some bass back. I had been dying to try an Audioque 2200 so I bought one off a member on here

After that, I decided I was sick of low voltage so I made a triple alt bracket. I've always had a 200a alt in the factory spot so I just added a couple of factory alts and my voltage never dropped below 14v

I made another triple bracket but never ended up using it because I'm going to do 6-8 alts so a quad is needed on the drivers side

I went to a few shows and realized I really needed to up my front stage so I started playing with arrangements

After talking to a few people, they told me I can fit 3 10's and keep the factory door handle. It would just require a little cutting of the inner door and playing with the window track so that's what I decided to do

This is where I'm at now. Resin will be here at the end of the week so I should have them finished by next weekend. The plywood in the back is just there so I have something to support the rings before I get the first layer of glass on. Once the first layer goes on the front, I'll cut the support dowels and remove the plywood

Ordered 4 more tweeters to make it a total of 6 for the front doors. These are discontinued so it took me almost a month to find the damn things

My end goal with this truck is to do a 55 no-wall with 2 18's and have a front stage that will easily keep up. Will I get the 55 with 2 18's? Everyone seems to think it's not possible but I'm sure as hell going to try to get as close as possible. Worst case, I pick up 2 more 18's

Got the other door started and ready for fiberglass today. I had a tough time trying to get them to be perfectly symmetrical but I think I got them close enough. You'll never see both door panels at the same time unless you're 50ft behind the truck and by that point, you won't be able to see the differences. They're getting painted and retextured to look identical to the factory part. A buddy does interior repair work for a living and he said that'll be really easy for him to do so that's 1 less thing I have to worry about

Tomorrow I'll get started on adding strength to the backside and glassing all of the rings together

Glassed the back of the panel with 3 layers, each with about 70% overlap. First layer I did right in the middle of the fleece. 2nd layer I went from the rings down to the first layer of glass. 3rd layer I went from the door panel itself to the first layer of glass and onto the rings along the bottom. I have to figure out some kind of bracketry for the bottom of the panel but that's not going to happen until I figure out how to get the speakers to fit :runaround:

Drove 3 hours to pick up my mids and didn't check the labels on the boxes. 5 are right and one is huge. I might swap the 5 I ordered and get the bigger ones

I've also decided to do the Taramps HD8000 instead of the HD5000 for the mids

Slowly but surely. My plan was to have the truck finished by the TDH show in May but I don't think it'll happen financially. I completely forgot to account for batteries in my estimate on how much it'll cost to finish the truck

Right now the build is on a brief hold for financial reasons. I will be tossing every bit of wiring in the truck and starting from scratch. I'll be doing 3 runs of 4/0 and using the 2 runs of 2/0 that's in the truck to wire the alts and runs from batteries to amps. I ordered all new RCA's last night. The roof is deadened with Tantric deadener and it sucks so I'll be ripping it all out and plywooding the roof as soon as we get a decent weekend weather-wise

The goal is to do a 155 in SSNW form with 2 18's. The loudest I've ever seen from a pair of 18's was a 157 so it's not too unrealistic. The new box will be 7 cubes with roughly 11 sq/in per cube tuned to 35hz. If I have to, I'll make another port that's tuned to 40hz and see what happens

Nice to see you made a log.

I think I've got a video somewhere of your truck with the Zv3's on the 2200.

Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do that
I can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows

came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream.

oh lawd.

Looking for the video now I'll post it as soon as I can find it
