ThatBassheadGuy Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Single SA-12 D4 1000w rms 2.0ft^3 after displacment (12 x 15 x 28 3/4" MDF ) 10.5" 4" areoport ~35hz tuning My concern is port velocity
Triticum Agricolam Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Yeah not enough port. Even two 4" ports is going to be on the low side. "Nothing prevents people from knowing the truth more than the belief they already know it.""Making bass is easy, making music is the hard part."Builds:
ThatBassheadGuy Posted January 16, 2016 Author Report Posted January 16, 2016 Even with the flared ends?
Triticum Agricolam Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Sundown doesn't give a port area recommendation for the SA series but they do for the E-series (28 sq in) and X-series (40 sq in). I think we can safely assume you are going to need to be somewhere between the two. A single 4" port has 12.5" sq in, so you aren't even remotely close. ThatBassheadGuy Posted January 16, 2016 Author Report Posted January 16, 2016 So port area when dealing with a slot port is just the opening right? 30 sq in would be 2" x 15", then the length is determined by the tuning frequency? In this case 2ft^3@35hz so 17.4" port length? I know this is basic basic stuff but I don't build boxes and I want to start.
Triticum Agricolam Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Yeah, that's pretty much it. Though 17.4" isn't the length you would need, it would need to be more like 28.4". Another thing to consider is the port aspect ratio. Its the ratio of the width compared to the height, a 2" x 15" port would have a 7.5:1 aspect ratio. Smaller ratios are better since they flow air more efficiently, I like to keep things under 5:1 if possible.
