certifiedquality Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Hello, I'm building a ported enclosure fro 2 HDS312's. The box will be 5 cubic ft tuned to 35. I have a few design ideas and I'm trying to decide which one is the most efficient: 1. Subs sharing common chamber with a single port. 2. Subs using separate chambers with a port each. 3. Also are there any advantages or disadvantages of using less port area? Assuming that both sizes will not create port noise.

It also is the most space efficient since you only have one set of port walls. When it comes to port size and performance, there really are only two kinds of ports, those that detrimentally restrict airflow, and those that don't. Obviously you want your port to be in the second category. As long as your port doesn't detrimentally restrict airflow it doesn't matter what shape or style it is. Also once it's big enough to not restrict airflow, making it any bigger won't have any effect other than to take up more space. So the trick is making sure you have enough port area to not restrict airflow, but not make it so big it wastes box space. I usually opt for straight ports with no bends and aim for a port air velocity of 35m/s or below.
