Smart Charging System Install

Recommended Posts

I have a 2012 Ford Focus S.E. hatchback. It seems to have a smart charging system ... meaning the Alternator is on the car's network! i cant find any high output alternator so i plan on just putting my system in it anyways.

-yellow top battery

- xs power xp3000

-audiopipe 3001d

-15" soundqubed hdc3

-alpine 147bt head unit

My question is about hooking up the amp on to this smart charging system. i cant find ANYTHING about hooking up a system in one of these. i have about 10 years experience on and off with car audio, hooked up many systems , but before i fry my ECM hooking this up wrong somehow ,, i am looking for advice,, how to run the amp so it doesnt disrupt the charging system.. or if you could point me in a direction, i will check in frequently for any help. thanks for your time,

UPDATED..

NEW INFORMATION: i am also concerned about hooking up the xs power in parallel with the yellowtop. they were both already in my s10 chevy but i totaled that vehicle , forcing me to start on this Ford Focus.

you will not be removing any stock wires.... the canbus will not be harmed in the making of this system

just wire the amp like any other install ... second battery the same way + run back to trunk ground #2 battery

I dont know if that charging system has any amperage monitors like the GM cars/trucks have.... you can try a big 3 upgrade but if the voltage starts acting funny then you will have to remove the new alt charging lead or grounds... take a close look at all the factory grounds and the alt charging cable and see if any pass through a plastic looking ring..... that would be a voltage/amperage clamping device... but I dont know if ford uses anything like this..... but I would say 9/10 times the big 3 will provide no noticeable difference when used with a stock alt and I dont know what size your stock alt is.... stock wire is probably between 8-10awg so even 4awg runs for the big 3 will be sufficient..... I run a stock 130amp and only do 4awg with 1500rms and 1 agm battery.... as I feel anything bigger is a waste of money and space
