Would like to get some opinions on my box/tuning.

First off my music taste is absolutely all over. I can listen and enjoy everything. I also do love some nasty lows on occasion. here is what I have in a 2000 Ford Ranger Ext. Box is 4.98 after sub( when I dont have it inverted) including bracing and round port displacement. Port is drivers side rear door 20 inches long, not flared or anything fancy, may do that in the near future. Sub is firing upwards. According to the Torres this gives me a tuning of about 32.88 Hz. The sub is being powered by and FSD FZ2600 at 1 ohm. Ive set it with a dmm for about 1500 watts.

My questions are.

1. After upgrading my amp, something just doesnt sound right. Not sure if its my sub sonic which I think I have at about 25 hz or so. Its not getting as low as it seemed to with my old PPI BA 2600.

2. if I extend my port to 28 inches it should drop my tuning down to 28hz. Is this even noticeable or worth it? How will it affect, overall the various types of music I listen to? Currently I can hit pretty high around 45 to 55 and still sound decent. Will that fall off if I change my port?

What diameter is your port? Is your sub a HDC315?

Tuning from 33 to 28 Hz you will probably notice a difference, you should have more low end output. It is very interesting that things changed with the different amp, your subsonic filter is the first thing I'd suspect. How did you determine where you have it set?

sorry about that, it is an HDS 315 and an 8 inch port. just a guess as to where it looks like its set. Ill go snap a picture in a second

Why did you ditch the ppi amps? Try turning the subsonic all the way down.

Im always changing things up a got a great deal on the FSD's. Ill try that. Does that phase shift mean or do anything?

I wouldn't worry about the phase shift, just crank it all the way over to zero.

There is a way to set your subsonic filter exactly where it needs to be. You just need a multimeter and a tone generator app for your phone.

1. Disconnect your subwoofer from the amp

2. Turn your subsonic filter all the way down

3. Play a sine wave tone through you system at moderate volume, the frequency of the tone should be where you want your subsonic filter set. A 1/2 octave down from tuning is a good spot (multiply your tuning frequency by .75 to get that number)

4. Measure the A/C voltage across your speaker outputs on the amp.

5. Multiply that number by .707

6. Turn your subsonic filter up until your voltage drops down to your original voltage * .707

7. Hook your sub back up

8. Profit
