Tuning x-over/epicenter gains

Hey fellas,

Question I have a audio control 6xs and epicenter that I'm wondering how I would tune with the dd1. I know if start with the head unit. The rcas from the head unit go to the 6xs. The 6xs has gains for the "front" "rear", and "sub". Would I connect a set of rcas to the outputs on the cross over and turn the gain until it detects distortion? From there do I set the gains on the amps, and if it detects distortions with the gain set to the lowest point would in turn the gain down on the xover until it's a clean wave?
