Sundown u 12's port area

I am planning a box for 2 sundown u 12's. My max dimensions are 32w 30d 15h, I plan to face subs forward with a side firing port on a sk 3500 at one ohm. shooting for around 4 cubes net i have plenty of room for port area. My question is do i stick with the rec of 64sqin from sundown or go for something bigger like 90sqin since i have the space available, what would be the benefits of having this much port area?

I replied in your other thread but I figured I’d post here too. 

Sundown’s port area recommendation is based on the assumption you will be running RMS power. You are running more than that so more port area is probably a good idea. 

 

There really is no performance disadvantage to running more port area. Where problems can arise is when you increase port area you also have to increase port length to keep tuning the same and there definitely is such as thing as a port that is too long. When ports get really long you can start to have pipe resonance issues. For this reason I keep ports under 45” in total length.

 

In your case you probably aren’t going to be able to use a 90+ sq in port without it getting too long. My suggestion would be to use as much port area as you can while keeping port length reasonable.
