Hey everyone, new to the boards thought I'd complete by introducing myself with some of the small things I've done to my truck so far.

I've got a little more info in that thread where everyone is introducing themselves if ya curious.

Anyways, here's what all I got so far in my truck. (I don't make as much money as I wish and I make payments and gas bills for the truck so thats where my cash goes)

-Alpine 9887 Headunit (best money spent)

-Stock chevrolet speakers (yuck, luckily the 9887 has that nifty crossover so I don't blow them)

-Orion HCCA d1200 mono amp (another really good buy)

-(2) 12 inch insignia subwoofers (not so great, but they do the job while I'm saving for cash)

-Audiopipe 1 farad stiffening capacitor (helps out alot!)

Non stereo

-viper 2way remote start security (christmas money) :)

Here's some pictures of what I've done over the last year and some of the progress I'm making.

When we first went and bought the truck it was ALL stock, but with all the stereo modding I started out with a sony walmart headunit, walmart 150 watt amp, and 2 oldschool mtx terminator 10's that my brotherinlaw was very nice to let me use while he wasn't using them.

Like a dumbass I always forget to take pictures of things before I modify them or change them so I dont have a picture of the truck when it had the sony HU or the walmart amp, but here's after I then bought the alpine with my b-day money.

Here's a shot of my brother inlaw's 10's that came in the unsightly boxes.

IMG_7090.jpg

After a while I started building a collection of freebies and what not by helping people out. My cousin being very generous gave me an orion 200 watt amp he had laying around to upgrade from the walmart amp, but then eventually my brotherinlaw's boxes for his 10's started falling apart as they were made from particle board that apparently had gotten wet over the years. As they weren't MY subs I decided to rebuild them as close to original as he had them and they turned out great! That was my first enclosure build and I was surprised at how well I did as well as with the felt.

Before and after. (Cant remember what they turned out to be tuned to after I had finished, but I just was making sure to stay as close to possible to the crappy prebuilt toxes they were in)

IMG_7941.jpg

I built them with little removable feet so whenever he wanted them back he could fit them back in whatever kind of truck. If any of you have a newer singlecab GM truck you'll know behind the seat how weird the setup is back there... :nea:

Eventually I started having dimming headlights problem going on so I was looking around for a cap and almost as if jesus came down from heaven with a hell of a deal, one of my buddies was selling his system and I offered to buy the cap from him and he only charged me 20 bucks! It was in great condition aside from a lil dirty, but what the hell I cleaned it and painted the mounting pieces. Good as new and fixed the power dispute.

Can of axe and the deck faceplate case down there in the picture...

What I am most pleased with so far is the matching I did with the dash install for the cd player, if you notice up in the earlier pictures I just had the generic GM mounting kit with the godawful ugly black plastic textured crap that I decided to mold the two pieces together and match the paint to the other parts of the truck in the dash. Turned out good except for a small crack where I didn't get enough epoxy in but its hardly noticeable. If I ever re-do it I'll make sure to make a thread on the whole process, maybe some other guys would want to do the same with their vehicle.

Just recently this year I had one of my teachers bringing me his old amps in class to fix for him. I got a very good insight as to which amps you should buy and which you shouldn't, :01nocomment8so: If any of you guys have ever soldered RCA jacks back to a board on a kicker amp you'll know how well the robots are soldering them in the first place. (Terribly)

The best I'd ever seen was a US amp that he had from back when they were still a fairly popular name (from before my time, maybe you bass veterans would know the history on them better) but anyway, I fixed the ground and power leads for him there and he asked that I ran 4 gauge wire through the plate and soldered it to the board and just do away with the power bracket. (Bottom line, this US amp was VERY well made I noticed compared to the others he had me fix)

He gave me an old 4 channel kenwood amp as well for fixing all the others as well, which I used in my truck for about a month before I sold it to help pay for my final amp.

The orion HCCA d1200 :D

So far I've got no complaints, this little guy sounds GREAT.

These are the insignia's I got as payment to build a buddy a box for his truck. I didn't necessarily want 12's in my truck, but I figured I could build some separate sealed truck boxes for them and boom them for a little while and sell them with the boxes I made to help pay for the 10's I want. In that picture I hadn't gotten grills for the boxes yet, but as of now they are on them. If anyone is wondering why I have coke cans propping the corners of the boxes up, it's because I plan on selling them and incase whoever buys them doesn't need the little leg they wont have to worry about removing them.

Anyway so I guess that's all the pictures I've got to share as of now, I'll add more of the other tidbits I've got going on and as I get more equipment. My goal is after I sell the 12's buy 10's and do a fiberglass box across back wall and have amp and cap mounting space on it. As of now I haven't gotten to a permanent state with my amp and subs to where I've mounted boxes or amps (they just kinda float around for now)

Looks good man. Everyone has to start from somewhere. Brings back memories on some of the music I had back in the day. I would mount that amp underneath one of the seats though. Thats a easy target for the thieves.

No matter how hot she is, someone, somewhere, is sick of her shit.

2-10" MA Audio

4-6.5" Kenwood door speakers

Total Amp

Thanks, I try and keep the truck clean (aside from the ball of wires behind my seat) ;)

My plan is to mount the amp onto the final box I build in the center next to the cap, but no telling how long it will be before I get the money built up.

If anyone has any advice on these trucks, there's a bracket where the wires attach underneath the seats that get in the way of putting the amp underneath the seat. If I were to decide to mount the amp underneath one of the seats for the time being, is there anyone who has a thread on how to remove that cluster and put it in the seat or somewhere out of the way? Not sure what the exact name of that wire cluster is so I'm not sure what keywords I would use to search for any topics on it, I'll have to look in the chiltons manual to see if there's a term for it.

Thanks again!

Whoops, forgot to add I do have a few vids as well. The first one is playing "Journey into bass - Dj laz" and the second is "Bass I love you".

The first one was done with my cell phone video camera so it's not so great quality. It's definitely loud though. :D

Then this one was done with my dad's digital camera so it's a little better quality.

At the moment I'm trying to decide on what subs I want to get, I'm stuck between (All 10in.)

-RF punch 3 shallows dual 4ohm - Link

-Orion c2 dual 4ohm (I can get for good price)Link

-Alpine type S dual 4 ohmLink

I'll be running these with my orion HCCA D1200 amp at 1ohm which will push them at 600 watts. My question is does anyone have suggestions as to which ones are better than the other? My experience is that I've heard RF punch 1's and alpine type S' but never owned them myself so that's as far as my experience goes, hopefully you guys can help! :pardon:

Thanks tons, I'll try and get some pics of my LED neon install tonight.

Here's some shots of the LED's I've put in. The switch is hidden in the top of the low dash pocket, here's some shots of it getting turned on.

Here's a shot of the switch from below so you can see how I hid it. It's the black rocker on the left side of the pic (upside down)

Some shots of the lights.

I hope to replace the lights behind the instrument cluster soon with blue LED's, I've got a leftover 9in bar that I could chop up and use, but I'll just have to see how that works out first. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Got a new video today.

I installed an amp and subs in a friends 04 dodge ram and we went out to a parking lot to tune it and he wanted to hear my setup.

While I was playing my stuff some girls drove up and showed some love to their favorite magician.
