Problem With Plumbing For Egr Valve

Recommended Posts

Ok. First on I drive a 2001 Blazer with the 4.3L engine and a 5-speed tranny. Now for the problem. I was driving down from orlando to bradenton on monday, and about half way through my drive I start hearing a noise coming from my engine compartment whenever I give the blazer more throttle to accelerate. Once I get down to bradenton I see that I melted a plastic Tee that connects 2 rubber hoses that come from my exhaust, and another tube that (im guessing) goes to my EGR valve. So I fixed and drove aorund bradenton for about a week no problem, but then it happened again driving back up to orlando tonight, and I check and it is the brand new plastic Tee that melted yet again. Has anyone had this happen to them, or can tell me why it keeps melting? Nothing has changed that I know of, and this has never happened to me before, so I am clueless. I am planning on finding a metal Tee that I can put in there, and see if the hoses melt, or anything. Hopefully it is nothing serious as I have no money right now.

Anyone have any clue at all what might be going on?

If it was an EGR valve, you would be getting a check engine light.

Are you sure it's not a vacuum hose?

When it happened going down to bradenton the check engine light didn't come on until after I was down and was actually driving to my friends shop to replace the Tee. I dont know what it is for exactly, he thought EGR, but im not sure. I know the tubes actually come from the end of each exhaust manifold, and meeed right in the middle in the front of the engine, the flow into a single hose, but not sure where that one goes. I will take a pic tomorrow, when it is lighter out side.

It is looking like you might be right. I got a couple pics, but not the greatest, it is kinda cramped under my truck.

ok, here is the Tee all melted, and a shot of it next to the new Tee.

This pic shows what the hose coming from the Tee goes to. it goes into the piece to the left, and then into the larger piece on the right. Here is what I dont understand. there is a hose coming from the piece on the right that comes up right next to my battery and dumps into my inner fender on the passenger side, and the hose is kinda crimped right around where my anti-sway bar is.
