96saturnsl Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 ok well i built a enclosure for my 15 BL, and the port has wicked bad noise. heres the demensions of the enclosure. width- 35 hiegth- 13.5 length of top- 18 lenght of bottom- 24 can someone help me make a port to fit that, so it will be tuned to 35 hrtz? if so it would be appretiated. i need help asap though cuz i have to go finish the project today. thanks in advanced. ISO Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Man there are alot of things that can cause port noise. If you can post pics it might help out alot. 96saturnsl Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 ik theres alot and ik for a fact its the port. Quote
96saturnsl Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 if it helps the port is out side the box. Quote
Decaf Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) u have wicked port noise because you have no specific tune frequency since ur port is at an angle if i remember the box.... this might be causing alot of turbulence which is why i said when u were making the box aeroports would help since they could be put in the box at the angle of the front baffle port noise is caused by turbulence or not enough port area... so pics and more info will help this is the one i helped you with right? u prolly notice it doesnt sound as loud as it should either since there is alot of wasted energy making port noise u could be loosing 3db easy... which is the same as giving ur bl half the power you are now in the right enclosure Edited August 31, 2008 by decafcappucino Quote
96saturnsl Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 no i had no measurements at all the measurements up there i came up with. ill get pics but im not proud of it cuz we had to throw it together kinda quickly i have a comp monday or tuesday...and i need this done...ill get pics tho. Decaf Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 whats the port width... port length did you round over port entrance/exit anytime you have a port on an angle it will not give favorable results...not unless you use max port surface area heres the way i think of it: when a slot port is at an angle and trying to produce 35hz... and the box is tuned to 32hz.... but its only tuned to 32hz at the longest length or in ur case the bottom of the box... so it almost like u shrunk the port surface area on each note because only a small portion of the entire port is tuned to a set frequency/can play a set freq so the bottom of the port might be tuned to 32, but the top could be tuned to 35-36hz... and the higher the tuning the higher the port surface area needs to be to sound correct Quote
Decaf Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 to put it another way... would you use 3 4" aeroports for a box....but have each port a different length/tuning, no cause you wouldnt have a defined tune freq... this method doesnt work for a ported box and it is the problem u are running into with ur slot port Quote
96saturnsl Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 ok well i have a ?. im just gonna make a new box..fuck the one thats in there...if i made one with a slot port and not angled. could i have the slot port firing towards the car n the sub pointed up? if so...i used RE calc for a enclosure....dont know how accurate it is...but i need a box asap so its better than nuttin.
