dwright27
okay, so im looking for more of a flat response outta my 18, and future 18's. im dirty in the low end right now but lose out on the high side of things horribly, looking to do a 4th order bandpass to try and even things out. this wont been in the F-150 and is just a brainstorm right now, but is there any other way to get a flat response besides a bandpass?? maybe a ported box tuned around 20 hertz? aznboi3644
what makes you thing a bandpass will always have a flat response??? It's hard to tell without knowing the transfer function. a ported enclosure can be made to produce a flat response what 18 inch subs do you have?? the missing higher end could just be the natural high end roll off due to the inductance Edited September 16, 2008 by aznboi3644

aznboi3644
well SPL subs are made to have a peakier response. Get a new sub that is more oriented for daily and that has a flatter response

aznboi3644
yeah it may get low...but it is probably still peaky. You said you want a flatter response...well that means with your MT you don't have a flat response so it must be peaking
tacomabanga1986
wouldn't tuneing it higher make it play higher tones? ied do around 35htz, i think the one mtx showed me to build for my 5500 15 was @ 38htz witch doesnt play lows worth a shit as i kno it would, ima halfto mess with it to see what i can do Quote here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit

tacomabanga1986
the thing i dont get about bandpass boxs is there so many diff designs, ive seen soem with ported back of sub and sealed front, and sealed back of sub and ported front, then ported front and rear of sub, then rear of sub ported threw front of enclosure then front of enclosure ported also(i think its a 4th or 6th order bandpass, i wanna try one but i dont want to mess it up, but i dont see why a bandpass wouldn't be a good idea, its just when that sub starts hammering the low lows will it unload inside the box? and are u gunna put plexi glass in it also? it would be sick doin a 4th or 6th order bandpass with plexi top ina suv would look tight as hell, but anyways if it dont work out u can always build another box? Kicker Guy
It will most likely sound worse in the bandpass.... but its your car go for it.
