seductivesounds Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 I curious to know how you guys determine how many batteries you need to back up your power. I'm looking at running around 7000-7500 RMS. I've called and emailed around regarding HO alts for my car, the largest alt I've been able to find is around 250amp I've seen ppl talking about ca, cca, and ah, but how do those numbers help you determine what you need. I'm rather new to systems this big, I'm talking more than 1 extra batt in the trunk. Thanks for that help
Decaf Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 depends on daily or competing higher the ah the better in the 7-8000 look for 80+ ah a very general rule of thumb is have as many cca as watts running continuous again very general so ud need: 3 or 4 hc2400 4 stinger/odyssey 2150 3 pm d3100 3 deka 931 but it depends on application... better include an MLA to keep them charged
seductivesounds Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 More daily driver than anything. I like that geteral rule. What is a MLA? (I should know this, its familiar) I think that the Kinetik batteries are going to be easiest to attain. No one around here has Powermaster, or Stinger batteries

No one around here has Powermaster, or Stinger batteries Both current and capacity are important. The "CCA" rating is for cranking amps, and only roughly translates into available current - especially in a daily driver. Kinetik batteries are a good choice, especially with local support. "MLA" Stands for Missing Link Audio (www.missinglinkaudio.com). MLA manufactures a control module for many vehicles to raise the charging voltage for multiple battery banks. the MLA shop vehicle is an H2 Hummer with 13 Kinetik 2400's for batteries. Maintained with two AD244 alternators & an MLA module. With 18,000 watts on the subs alone, it draws some serious power. Add as many batteries as you can afford / fit. With a limited charging capacity, added battery capacity will carry the system for a longer period of time. The down side is you will need to let the alternator catch up with the depleted batteries between songs (or charge overnight). The Kinetiks will take quite a bit of abuse, but they do need to be fully charged on a regular basis for the best life. 'Link missinglinkaudio The United States Marine Corps.
