Enclosure Question

Every one I ask around here at the local comps and at the local stores tell me for pure spl a bigger box is better.

I've noticed a few references in posts here that smaller is better for spl. Smaller tuned high.

My box is 1.6 ish with subs that the recommended space is 2.5. It scores higher than people think I should with my set up so in my experiance smaller is better.

Is there a good rule of thumb for spl? Something like normally 25% larger/smaller and tuned 10% higher/lower than recommended specs?

Noob question i'm sure, I'm just trying to get it straight to help me design my own.

whats the difference is power, smaller boxes for overpowering and larger boxes for underpowering. SPL high power setups need the small box and large port to support the woofer while "boom" setups tuned low like larger boxes, but i do agree ITS ALL TRIAL AND ERROR as to your specific setup.

Ok, It's starting to make a bit of sense now. With my set up I am putting 425 watts to each 250 rms sub. So a smaller box works for me and lets me get those subs a flappin.

When I throw in my old diamond audio tdx 15" I should go with the very high side of the box req's with the same amp as it is 1500 rms.
