Sonotube Subwoofer....

Recommended Posts

I saw that post here on SMD where someone built a Sonotube subwoofer for home theater but used a Quick-rete tube form Home depot instead.

So I went and bought the tube, and will order a Dayton sub from parts-express next week.

Question I have is on the thinner Quick-rete tube vs. a thicker 'actual' sonotube.

I am not looking for window shattering bass for my small home theater, but is there a necessity to try to strengthen the quick-rete tube. I plan to add 2 extra MDF rings inside for some bracing, but what about lining the inside with fiberglass resin and cloth??

Also for a ported enclosure, is there an ideal tuning frequency for home theater use?

All advice is welcomed!
