no problem man i want to do my tails really bad how many coats did u put on or just post the steps u did

its all in the technique, you might have to try it a couple times to get the right darkness to not be dangerous, so keep some lacquer thinner on hand

acetone streaks the plastic but I didn't care because they were getting sanded then blacked out anyways

buy this stuff, IMO its better than Nite Shade, but then again I never had good luck with NIte Shade, it always came out dull

I had to get the old paint off from my previous fail so I started by using acetone to get the paint off

then the left one had clear underneath it that needed to come off so I got the lacquer thinner and went to work

don't use paper towels because it will evaporate to quickly, use a rag

got all the paint off then got my disc sander and sanded the whole housing with 220

once I was happy with the finish (all the scratches, flaws, etc. out) I cleaned it with paint thinner and let it dry

I've learned from all my rattle canning that if you soak the spray paint in warm water while you are doing the prep work then shake it for about 30 seconds before you are ready to spray it comes out in a much more even coat and doesn't clog nearly as much

I held the housing in my hand because I never have good luck spraying on cardboard and last time I missed the right edge

start with the edges.. I shot it about 4-6" away from the housing and keep the can moving don't ever let it stop on one spot

also do bursts, don't hold the nozzle down

work your way around the edge of the housing and start working your way towards the center

if one part isn't as dark as the other don't shoot any more go to a different area and by the time you come back, if the temperature is good, it will have already tacked up enough to spray over

you want to make sure you spray enough to not see the red underneath but NO more than that otherwise it gets to dark

then let it sit and dry, I always rush mine and install it like 30 minutes later and it sucks trying not to touch the paint but I've gotten good at it

I want to shoot a clear over it so it will last longer but so far so good :)

hope that helps, lol pretty detailed but thats exactly how I did and its the best one of my rattle can projects has come out yet

the third brake light was even better because it was fresh and I just took 1000 grit to it to get it smooth, then light even coats

its a really glossy finish!!

daytime running lights during the day are not noticeable at all, at night they are slightly

but the brakes, turn signals and reverse lights are visible in the day and are even better at night because its a black hole then all of a sudden light so it works out to my benefit :)

where did u get the lens tint at

unlike Nite Shade which around here is only sold at one store because its illegal I got the lens tint at Autozone

anywhere there is spray paint you should be able to find the lens tint

its about $12 a can.. I did both my tail lights, third brake light, and both my buddy's DRL's twice because we screwed up the first time

so if you mess up on your tails once or twice you'll still have paint if you only use sparingly like I posted above

So does that lens tint have a glossy finish unlike nightshade? Thats the only thing thats really been holding me back is I dont want that dull cheap look.

turn signal is good on the tail lights both at night and in the day

the front I said fuck it since I never use my turn signal anyways, too many dumbass drivers around here that see a turn signal and think you want to race or they think they own the lane

so originally the turn signals in the front had nite shade on them but it was dull looking and uneven so when I painted my rotors I just sprayed another coat over the DRL's so now it is BARELY visible at night

they were red anyways and I hear cops don't like anything red on the front of your car so its kind of good I blacked them out completely

I plan on modding my headlight housing to hold a turn signal bulb since the corner of the housing is empty and just in case a cop says you have no turn signals in the stock location I can flip them on and they will still be there in the headlights :)

I never had good luck with nite shade

I always had a dull finish no matter what prep I did or how I sprayed it, like you said it looked cheap

between the combination of a REALLY smooth finish on my tail lights and cleaning them off with paint thinner the lens tint had a clean surface to adhere to therefore giving me a really glossy smooth finish

tomorrow is my day off so I'll grab some pictures on my better camera

also the glossiness is important, when I had the semi-gloss on the tail lights it seemed to diffuse the light and now that its glossy it shows the light a lot better

Sweet, then im going to use that rustoliem paint instead. I'm gunna buy some new tail lights so it should have a nice surface to adhere to once I clean them and sand :) Have you thought about putting clear coat on them or have you tried that?
