Eskii
Bit bored this week waiting for ma new gear to arrive. So thought i'd ask for opinions on where to head with the engine in my Jeep. Looking at either a small block chev drop in, or stroking and boring the original 4.0 out to 4.7 and putting a 8.5 PSI supercharger on July next year. Wat's your vote?? Spire
im sure youve done some research but have you thought about going turbo instead? if you can deal with a tiny bit of lag, turbo would be a much cheaper option (usually is, you never know in some cases i guess). bassbaker15
drop a 5.7 down in there and call it a day... Or go ahead and get a 400 SBC =P LOTS of potential in those blocks.. 01xtreme
Pick up an LS1 out of a wrecked F-body. it will run you about 3000-3500 for the entire drop-out. and you have the potential for major upgrades in the future EDIT: Not to mention you gas mileage will improve Edited February 23, 2009 by 01xtreme Quote My System: Pioneer AVH-P3200BT 4-Dayton 7 inch reference series (front doors) 8-Onkyo 3/4 inch tweeters (dash) 1-Sundown Audio 100.4D (mids/highs) 2-18" BTL's (for now) Crescendo 3kwp (for sale) Complete rebuild coming soon... AR1684
v8 much cheaper, with endless amounts of upgrades, but a blown/turbo I-6 would be different
cornfed
im sure youve done some research but have you thought about going turbo instead? if you can deal with a tiny bit of lag, turbo would be a much cheaper option (usually is, you never know in some cases i guess). The problem with turbocharging a project like this is the rarity of parts off the shelf. It would take a lot of custom fabrication. The small block route has been proven time and time again. It is a popular swap with aftermarket support.

Even any ls series engine swap. The aftermarket is good, the engine is sweet, and you don't see tons of ls series swaps in jeeps.
Eskii
Spire - The issue with he turbo is yes, lag! With 4x4's this is not really ideal, as when rock crawling you need your torque down low. The only dis with the V8 is the time to soure bellhousings etc... The I-6 is very simple, plus if i break engine mounts off-road, there's nt a major hastle to get new ones...
