Astro Build - 12 Cerwin-Vega 12"s in a Clamshell C-Pillar Wall

Recommended Posts

Seafoam in the tank and I pulled the vacuum line from the brake booster and let it suck down a bit from there too. It really smoothed out the idle and helped the throttle response. Well- until the little head gasket problem. The van still runs, but the motor sounds like DOG at idle. Pretty sure there is a good bit of damage. We just barely got home! I don't believe the Seafoam had anything to do with it though, because this same thing happened some years ago- not as bad- and you would be amazed what gobs of radiator stop leak will do. :D I think it actually fixed the leak for a while. After I flushed the cooling system I believe I worked it back loose again.

I'm pretty much set on the 350. I want to keep my computer and Throttle Body Injection just to keep it simple. I already have a 350 chip to put into my computer. I'm no stranger to Carbs, I just don't want one in my van. The engine can't be too crazy (meaning big cam) because the computer goes stupid. But the plan- prob. get the heads from a newer 350 (keeps the newer style more efficient and powerful valve train), work them a bit, match them to an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake I have (if it will fit and work), get shorty Headman Headers, and run dual exhausts.

As everything, it will be a long and slow process, but know that I will post pics and write ups as things get done.

Thanks guys for the support and encouragement. :drinks:

I have had this van too long, have too many fond memories, and have done too much work to let it go just because of a little motor issue. :P Besides- you guys know how it is- it just gives me an excuse to go bigger and badder. ...in a minivan. Ha!

I hadn't really planned on making it before the motor went stupid, but now there is no way. lol. I got my vanity baffles up (sounds and looks better) and I did rebuild my alt to a 220 amp. It made a big difference but it still needs more batts and really, a bigger alt or another one like I rebuilt.

Hate that I can't make it, but take lots of pics for us! You got lots of good ones at Scrapin!

BALLS! LOL! The wife and I hung out from about noon to 6pm on Saturday. Then the mother in law took us to the buffet at the Hollywood Casino. Hate that I missed you Matt. We ate so many crab legs that pleasure became pain. :P

Dude! I hope you get the van fixed or......FIXED UP---HEHEHEHE

A 350 would be the stuff, but nothing wrong with the stock replacement either! Up and cruising quicker!

Goodluck! To bad it's not a Ford, I would have you covered with parts!

4-5.25 MB Quarts

20-10" pyramids super Pro

:) Thanks for the help anyways. :friends:

So.... the possible donor:

Now- I know what it looks like now. But here is the beauty of my plan: this motor is the old clapped out one that came from my other vehicle that I love:

Posted Image

My 1974 3/4 ton 4x4. It now has a cammed up 327.

I have to pop off the heads to see if it is any condition to rebuild. Then we will go from there.

And on a bad note... the more I have been reading up on what my van was doing, it seems as if it isn't a head gasket, but one or both of the heads that are prob. cracked. Oops. I dunno- I just can't see pulling out the 4.3l when a 5.7l is the same except it has 2 additional cylinders in the front of the motor (no transmission move, no driveshaft change, no cutting, nada... just a bolt up.) We will see guys.

Hey man, I go to school at the W in Columbus. I'm in Columbus every Tuesday and Thursday. We'll have to meet up so I can see and hear this thing!

Edit: And the other guy that said he was very close to you, too. It'd be cool to meet some people from here.

Yeah, that's 1992Chevy K1500 that is close by.

That would be cool if we could all meet up somewhere and get to slumpin' in a parking lot somewhere.
