hey guys,

as you can see im new here but not to car audio.

my name is sam and i live in sydney australia.

ive currently got a ford falcon with 2 kicker cvr12s in a stock boot box;.

ive just done a dodgy and stuffed some wood in there to stop the box from jumping and rolling around

im sick of having no boot and booming bass due to twins in a single ported box.

the port is currently, approx, 7 inch circular and 20 inches deep.

dont know wat its tuned or anything like that.

im looking to build a box for my subs and amps.

i'll post a couple of current pics and some pics of the boot so all can see and help me

the main thing i want to know is:

i listen to metal and hip hop and like my bass loud but tight, especially with the double kick bass.

the box im looking to build needs to fit in the slot ive got behind the back seats, dont care how far it protrudes.

i need to know whether it would be worthwhile me building a big box for both subs, with an mdf sheet separating the two subs and making one of he sub sides sealed and the other ported (obviously placing the mdf sheet in the right position as to ensure the ported and sealed volumes are correct, help with these volumes would be fantastic aswell.

thanks all

I did an install on one of these just the other day.

We did subs up ports forward in a box around 2.2 cubes for 2 12" subs. 2 4" aeroports, 1 in each corner.

Make the box the width of the cutout through to the back seats, as high as you can and as deep as you can afford space-wise.

Then we 'walled' it off in the boot and mounted the 2 amps on the boot side of the 'wall' with the wiring coming under the box and up through the tire well.

Still gave plenty of usable boot space and hit pretty hard for what it was. Tuned to about 40hz IIRC but played much lower thanks to the subs loading off the parcel tray.

EDIT: Your boot is slightly different... what year/shape is your Falcon?

hey boon,

thanks bro where u at?

its an ef 96 xr6

im gonna mount the amps in a single custom rack on the right of the boot

im lookin at gettin 2 cvr 8" as well to help hit those high bass notes so i kinda want to keep this box directly deep and high if u know what i mean. i dont want the box protruding to the side of the boot too much because i want to mount the 8" in the bck corners.

hmmm.

i was thinking about only porting one of the subs, do u reckon that would work well for a bit of a sq as well as spl?

if i design the box around 2.2 cubes and seal one half whattya think?

thanks bro tonnes

I'm in New Zealand :P

I wouldn't bother with the 8's or the half sealed box. Just port it right and it will do all the things you mentioned :)

+1, mixing different sub sizes usually doesnt go to well, build the box right and it will work well with a good range or frequencys.

Edit: I would also make sure that whatever you do to one sub, you do to the other, trust me it will sound much better that way.

okay guys. cool.

what sort of size port and box volume would u recommend then?

i like my bass deep, but also tight and responsive for metal, difficult to do, i know.

im buying materials as i speak for the amp rack.

i'll take some pics, hopefully have it done tommorow??

hopefully...

thanks again.

tuned to 35-40hz??
