1954 Bel Air Trunk

Recommended Posts

If your not to far along you really should start with the floor first. Building and setting the panels on a flat even surface will make things easier. If your going to cover where the bottom panel's edges meet the sides you dont need to be as precise with the angles. There are a couple of methods to meet weird shaped panels. One is just like your doing. Cardboard, marking with a pencil, cut, check and repeat until your happy. You can do even smaller sections and tape them all up into a pattern and transfer to a piece of wood. There are contour gauges that you can find at woodworking sites that work great. Some are flexible rubber guides that can be molded onto complex shapes to transfer the contour to a template. There is also a push thru wire type that does a good job as well.

What your doing is looking good so far so just keep it up and Im sure it will turn out well.

I would make a false floor and cover the tank 1/2 way and put the compressors so they stick out of the floor on an angle. I have a pic of some thing simular to this I will see if I can find it

My original plan was to run hardlines like this...

Picture025copyah.jpg

But money is kinda tight, so i decided to flip the tank so you wont see any hose/lines..

Picture.jpg

but come to find out that if i ran the hose from underneath, my gas tank got in the way...... SOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I decided to flip the tank around again, and came up with this... it clears the tank perfectly... :spiteful:
