SQMonte Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 What frequency should the box be tuned for? Just curious because I plan on upgrading to Level 3's at some point in time, and they just happen to have the same specs when it comes to box volume as my ID's and since i'm planning on having Thumper build me a box I'd like to use the same box for both sets of subs, but the tuning frequency will be the deal maker or breaker. I'd be running a pair of Level 3 12's in a ported box, 1.5 cu. ft per chamber. shainemcconnell Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) i prefer 28-33.. usually closer to 32...for me but then you also have to take into consideration the resonating Freq of the car. if you cant find that....get a 10" sub in a sealed box and have it TL'd and that should tell you pretty close to what the resonate freq of the car is. ______ the fourth is starting to effect my typing skills Edited July 5, 2009 by shainemcconnell Quote 2010 IDBL Rookie 1 North American Champion 2009 IDBL Rookie 1 Fl State Champion 2009 EBB Fly Weight 3rd Place Fl State Finals 2006 Silver Grand Prix GXP :Diablo Audio Hellfire 1000.1, JL Audio 300/4, One 13W7, ZR650, VR690, JL Cleansweep setup. SQMonte Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 Interesting I was under the impression that the tuning frequency of the box was dictated by the specs of the sub, learn something new everyday. shainemcconnell Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) well, they play a part...but the box is the largest factor, i believe. My box is tuned to 32-34 Hz...but my car peaks at 48-49 Hz. If I am wrong about that someone please kick me in the head I will hardly even look at the specs of the Sub When I go to tune a box....and the box usually comes out within at most a db or two of what I was aiming for. Noobtastic14 Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 i would tune to 37/38hz and place the box just off the back of the car facing rearward.
