iTech Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Alright, so I've been thinking hard about my box design and ran into a question. My box i'm designing is 2.80 Cubic Feet, after Sub & Wood Displacement. I plan on running two 4" Aero Ports. About 16" Long. The question is, Is the tuning affected after port displacement? Or are the calculations with port displacement. How do you calculate the tuning after displacement, without messing all the numbers up? SPL2K Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 you have to subtract port displacement just like you do for the sub, internal bracing, etc. Michael Hughes = 6X SPL World Champion - Loudest on the planet in db Drag, USACi, and IASCA.
iTech Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 you have to subtract port displacement just like you do for the sub, internal bracing, etc. So lets say my box is 2.8 cu. ft. Then I get a 6" Port that is about 16.5" Long tuned to about ~37 Hz So the area it displaces is .26 cu. ft. That will end up being 2.54 after all displacements. Will the tuning still be the same? SPL2K Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 no....you have to figure the tuning after all displacements are figured. (this will take awhile because the port displacement will keep changing while you are figuring the proper length.)
