Ways To Speed Up Comp.?

Recommended Posts

Alright so I have a regular ole' Dell Dimension 2400.

I was wondering what hardware I could buy to make it faster(Loading up, switching programs, etc.)

Give me options from cheapest to most expensive.

As of now I have some restore cd's that are on the way to restore this beauty to original condition but just wanted to know how to make it faster.

Memory will be a big help. I know nothing about those computers, so I don't know which type to buy.

My comp setup (Not bad for what it is):

HP Compaq Presario V6120US laptop with:

15.4" widescreen

AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz processor

2x1GB stick DDR2 SDRAM (667 Mhz)

Seagate Momentus 500GB SATA HDD

128MB shared video memory

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

12 cell Lithium Ion battery (actual battery usage time: 6 hours)

What it does:

On a USB 2.0 Wireless card

my bro has the same one and he bought 1 gb of memory and completely restored his computer and it made a hell of a differance 2 things tht are easy to help with speed is to keep as little desktop icons as possible and if you use a filesharing program like limewire make sure u have it completely closed when ur not using it they slow u down quite a bit

go to run, or the little open bar on the windows logo thing, and type in MSconfig

from there, go into services and click hide all microsoft services, and disable everything that you DONT need in there.. pretty obvious on what you do and dont, if you know the programs on your computer.

then go into the Startup menu on that same Msconfig and disable the rest of the bullshit that you dont need, and it will speed it up tremendously

I've done a long time ago. Almost nothing is runnin' but it's still pretty slow sometimes.

How about upgrading the processor? Does it have to be a specific one for this computer?
