bigredishott
OK here is the deal. I had replaced my infinity kappa perfects with kappas because, I thought a mid-bass was blown. Well tonight for the 1st time, I checked the ohms with a DMM, 3.5 on both mid-basses. I also checked the tweets 3.2 on both. I am wondering, if smoked xovers could have made my mid-bass sound blown? I know the xovers got hott! The plastic the copper is wound on partially melted. Could only the xover be bad, is there a way to test with a DMM? Also, if anyone else owns a set of these kappa perfects 6.5" ,if the would put a DMM on them and give me a reading of the ohms on tweets and mid-bass. Thanks and sorry for sounding like a dumb ass, please be kind. PS The mid-basses do not smell blown. duct_tape123
You only gave 8 minutes between responses. I'd wait a little longer before you get your panties in a wad over nobody replying to your post. Crossovers can go bad, if its melted that usually means its bad. A picture is worth 1000 words. P.S. If you didn't get the hint, post a picture! Edited September 14, 2009 by duct_tape123
U.P. Bumpn
If your crossover is melted i'm sure it is toast. literally. And yes i'm sure it would make your mids sound blown. Do you have a picture of the crossover that got hot or do you know how it got so hot?

Its cool about the post, good things come to those who wait. The speaks specs = power range 25-100 watts RMS peak power handling 400 watts sensitivity 90 dB Amp 150++ RMS But, was not turned up to high. (I thought) The new eminem cd was louder than most. Should have set gains with DMM. Also, them coils were hot to the touch. And again thanks everyone. duct_tape123
Coils on crossovers hot? Most likely too much power and burned them up.
bigredishott
Coils on crossovers hot? Most likely too much power and burned them up. I should have tried to swapped the mid-basses and xovers, seen if blown sounding speaker switched sides. Maybe Ill hook them back briefly, and try that. No way to check with a dmm (easier solution, could do now) Quote Alpine CDA-9847 HU F Highs 2x Infinity Kappa 60.9CS Powered by Eclipse EA4200 Glass door panels R Highs Infinity Ref. 9622i powered by HU 3x RF Punch HX2 RFD2210 Powered by MTX Thunder 81000D Box Vol. 3.259 before displacement, Tuned 36.6, Port area 54"
