Rogers
ok so i just bought 15 feet of some cheap wire off a dude... anyways the wire says DB Link-USA 4awg.... its pure copper by the looks of it... here is my concern... im comparing it to some scosch wire from walmart.... the wire bundle itself looks to be close to the same size, but the wire strands in the DB wire are thinner but there appears to be more... they are like hair thick... anyways the DB wire is also feels a bit lighter than the walmart wire.... im going to be running a kicker sx650.1 and i need to know if this db wire will suffice for 650rms.... can someone explain to me the importance of smaller strands? BAGGEDBIRDS.com
more strands is better. There is more surface area that way. Lymerock
electricity conducts down the outside of the strands not down the core, so more strands = more surface area and more surface area = better transmission/less loss principle of circular mil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_mil

white4d96
haha, i got some install bay 0guage wire and my schosh 4guage had more strands than it did lol I did an install last weekend in a car that had "8g" power wire running through it that had fewer strands than some Fosgate 16g speaker wire I had laying around...I was flabbergasted. finkster
electricity conducts down the outside of the strands not down the core, so more strands = more surface area and more surface area = better transmission/less lossprinciple of circular mil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_mil thats true with dc electricity. DC is low voltage high amperage. AC is high voltage low amperage. Thats why all wires in the house are so thin. But nice explanation. and Rogers, i think either would do the job well. Its only 600 watts.
