hey guys,

time for another update...

for the pods ive always wanted to try a different much cheaper alternative to fiberglass and i decided these were a perfect test dummy...

lots of PVA glue:

and some paper mache! we used to do this over balloons in primary school art to make various cool things so i decided to try it on something useful :)

2010-08-01154551.jpg

after 4 or 5 layers of newspaper and PVA glue they seemed to be solid enough:

once they dried i test fitted the speakers to make sure everything fit, the paper mache probably wouldnt last in anywhere they get knocked around but for these boot pods or maybe some a pillar trims its perfect!:

after all of the glue was dry i got some body deadening paint to get them even more solid:

its also a convenient black to match the rest of my boot:

ive done 2 thick coats so far, im waiting for it to dry overnight then will do another coat or two tommorow, thyenn all thats left to do is wire them up and put them in the car :)

also over the last few days ive been building a box for a freinds ford laser:

its 4 fusion encounter 10" subs (super entry level stuff) and an RE XT4000dV3 1500w amp, were hoping for low-mid 140s at the comp coming up this sunday :)

Loving that laser box 10 stars. What have you tuned it to and what are the measurements? The size it looks it will be going in a ka-ke laser hatch? How strong did the pods come out with the paper? very interested in that option as glass down this way is dear as poison.

yeah their not the greatest, some of their higher ranges are ok but there more about bling than good sound, these are their lowest model and were originally bought for fully sick midbass in a mates doors, once he relised they were shit theyve been through various boxes in various cars...

we havnt tuned it yet but it will be about 45-47 most likely, im making a few ports up today to see which is loudest, its 98cm x 51cm x 41cm external, (i dunno inches lol) about 4.7 cubes net with 8 0 sqin of port (that 80 emoticon is quite annoying :()

the pods probably wouldnt survive in an area where they get knocked around much (like door pods) but for these little boot pods (or maybe some a pillars) they are plenty strong enough to not flex from the 6.5"s... they would probably be fine in areas they get knocked around if you used this as a base then put less layers of glass on to make it cheaper :)

soooo sick man, go get that shit meterd

cheers mate, my wagon and the laser will both be getting metered this sunday, im sure il have lots of vids and pics then :)

I think I might do somthing like this just to try it out now. I have a pair of tweeters that need pillar moulds and a spare set of pillars so I might just have a go at this one.

haha yeah the name originated from watching the movie the night before we painted this:

teamvandersexxavatar.jpg

did 144.x with the same JBL subs and respose amp that are now in my wagon, it had a badly tuned and really flexy 4th order wall and is now awaiting a rebuild :)
