bobo333
hey guys you may have seen my daily driver here: bobos Aussie wagon so i thought it was about time to show you my "other" ride... it all started a couple of years ago when me and a mate were looking around for a cheap SPL car to have some fun with, $550 later we came home with this: straight away it was subbed up with a dual 10" box strapped to the back of the cage and all the gaps filled with mdf for a makeshift wall... it did 133.8db off 800w at a sound comp the next day... then the paint went on, it took a few people a couple of hours with random spray cans to turn it from boring white to this: this is also when the VANDERSEXX name came along, we watched 'eurotrip' the night before and the name fitted so it stuck after the first comp some supplies were bought for the first of its many rebuilds: the budget was tight so we made the wall as strong as possible with as little materials as possible, this meant pine frame: with MDF on top: the subs are 4x JBL GTO1502 15"s, you may recognise them from my wagon build, they did 144.2db in that at 32hz you may also recognise the amp from my wagon build, Response 1500w monoblock, running off 2x optima D31s: with the port finally figured out and lots more bracing added it reached a PB of 147.9 @47hz heres one of the readings at that comp: and a pic one of my mates made up: that pic also shows the new frontstage i added (by tech screwing speaker boxes though the roof lol) heres a couple of vids of its second incarnation: after that i got bored of the highs and lowered the tuning by extending the port a lil... i also added a stripper pole to stop some of the flex and made a nice box/podium for the head unit and volt guage to go in: and last but not least a fully sick drift spec tacho so i could see what the engine was doing while out cruising ( i cant hear the engine over the bass lol) heres a vid shortly after putting the new port in: and thats about where shits started getting serious... in this giuse it went over to an interstate comp and the launch of bassrace in australia where it did consistant 139.9s lots of demos, unfortunatly the retune brought it down to 145s legal though next post comes the big rebuild... stay tuned! ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^

bobo333
thanks guys... it gets better before the last comp i went to the paint had faded and most of it was flaking off (cheap ass paint and no prep work ftl lol) so it was due for a respray, this time it was to be a bit more respectable as im starting to take it to more shows so i sanded it all down and got a couple of mates to help spray the body black: i didnt want to paint the roof black coz it would get too hot in the sun so i chose a nice hot pink instead: the the vandersexx logo got resprayed on the front in pink and white: this was where things started to snowball and after a couple of shows like this i started buying more goodies: 8 pairs of 6.5" CDT coaxials for the mids and highs, and 2x epsilon ea5000d's aka surfboards: not exactly small amps lol first to go in is the new fronts, i started by tracing the doortrims onto some 6mm melamine: i then figured out i could space the speakers out far enough to not cut any metal which means my windows will still work and the door wont fall apart from me cutting the shit out of it lol: after a bit of playing around i figured out how to fit 5 speakers in each door neatly: a couple more layers of mdf and the pods are done: plenty of clearance to the seat etc and makes a nice armrest while driving lol to make it look nice i hunted down and killed the cookie monster before skinning him to cover the door trims in: i used spray on contact adhesive to stick the fur on: and added a strip of PVA glue on the back to make sure the edges dont peel up: the speaker pods will be covered in black carpet but i havnt got around to doing that yet, today i just did a quick spray with black paint so i could test fit them and see how they look: in the van: should go pretty loud i hope , tommorow il finish off the other side and hopefully start wiring them up... running 5 sets of wires into the door isnt gonna be fun... the other 6 speakers will be goin in a roof pod incase you were wondering, the roof is going to get strengthened up with mdf to stop the flex and trimmed in matching cookie monster fur with the rest of the speakers pointing at your face thanks for lookin, updates will come as they happen! ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^

bobo333
hey guys... did some more work on this over the last week to get it ready for a show this weekend... pulled the old speakers off the roof and pulled the roof lining down then cut a 20mm plywood sheet to strengthen it up: then started on the new speaker box: 2x 15L chambers for 3x 6.5"s per side cut some trim rings to match the doors: all together: then i covered it all in the same blue cookie monster fur as the doors: and painted the trim rings black: i also finished off the passenger side door: today i got some more supplies to finish off this part of the build: the black pipe will be screwed onto the chassis rail along the underside of the van to run wiring through as i dont have any sill panels or anything to hide the 16 runs of speaker wire under, i have enough pipe to do a run for power a run for speakers and a run for RCAs... i also got expanda foam to brace the roof after i screw the new pod up tommorow hopefully the 100m roll of 12ga i ordered arrves so i can wire the speakers up thanks for lookin ^^^ clicky pics for build logs ^^^
