Are my batts bad?

I wanted to check my batteries to see if they are still good. been having low voltage issues recently.

I have 2 kinetik 1800s and 2 2400s I was at oriellys and figured id get them load tested. they brought a hand held one out to my car. He said he neede to know the cold cranking amps. but i didnt know what they are for the kinetik. Any one know? I told him the dead short amps are rated 1900 and 2600.

He tested teh 1800 i have under my hood with a 1000 amp load and it said the battery was bad.

He said they had a better tester inside that would do a better ready. A real tester not just a hand held. So brought my other 3 batts a little bit later.

this time he test the other 1800 and the 2 2400s, he used a 1600 amp load, they all came back bad.

Was that load to high? and thats why they all came back bad?

After i was bummed out about that i decided go test them at my house my own way.

I tested with my saz1500, playing a 45 hz tone full tilt on 2 mojo 12s.

I disconnected my amps power and ground from the car, and did 5 separate tests, hooking the amp directly to each battery.

I got the same results for all 4 kinetik batteries.

all the kinetiks started of setting at 12.94~5 volts,

with the amp on playin at volume 20/60 all the batts set at 12.75 and had a current draw of about 1.5 ~ 2 amps, Tested with a dc clamp meter.

at full tilt, volume 60/60 all the batteries had the same voltage drop down to 12.1, and a current draw from 34 ~ 34.6 amps.

after getting all the same results i decided to gets an old duralast gold battery i had layin around, I threw in on a 1.5 amp charger for a bit since it had just been sittin around.

after the charge it set at 12.9

with the amp on at 20/60 is was at 12.7 with 1.5 amps of current draw.

full tilt, the voltage dropped to 12.1 with 32 amps of draw.

all of the kinetiks kept the same voltage drop through about 5 10 second tone cycles, but the duralast started to drop down to 11.9 after a 3 cycles.

So im not a real big expert one determinin if these results are good or bad, but im sure some one on here knows somethin.

Parts stores probably dont have the capability of a 1000 amp load.

If he keyed them in as 1600 cca batts they would probably come up bad. He probably didnt present a 1600 amp load. The tester he used is probably a capacitance tester.. It uses the battery capacatance instead of an actual load.

Thats very lilttle current for that volume.. Unless your gain is down.

I think your batts are prob fine. May need some charging overnite around 15 amps..

that wat ive always heard about there testers.

they did have some coil looking things on them that looked important for testing.

as for the current, its a cheaps ac/dc voltage current hz clamp tester thing. not sure how accurate it is.

I will be looking into a better charger soon, right now i just have a 1.5 amp charger maintainer that i leave the ones that arent in my car on.

NP. You can use the 1.5 amper everyday. I usually like 10 amps per battery for 6-8 hrs

well wouldnt the 1.5 amp charge every single cell in the batt.. even at the very top of the batt...

I wouldn't trust their ability to put a '1600A load' on your battery - we're talking ~8 runs of 0ga to carry that sort of current. Let alone some grotty little tester.

Sounds like your batteries maybe aren't getting a proper charge, that is quite a bit of drop for only a 30A load.

so where was this place? think they can test my 10000amps of batts at my busbars?

the stuff we use is so far past what normal people have its hard to test and quantify sometimes. also a maintainer couldnt hurt, especially if your alt is smaller than your draw (which it almost always is unless you have just a h/u....remember your car draws 60-90 just in operation)

honestly throwing 1.5 amps into these is nothing, its great to float them but topping up over night will need a lot more.
