Souldrop
Hello all, I was wondering what size people would suggest for a sealed box. It will be going in a 1995 toyota avalon and powered by a sundown 1200d...I've built one thats roughly 3.25 ft^3 internal after displacement for sub port and bracing and it's tuned to about 35 Hz with a slot port.It gets hell of loud and drops lowww, but I'm looking for a flatter response overall and something a lil less sloppy on rock...So anyone who has had experience with the t2 in a sealed box please chime in as I have heard a few people have experimented with them...and any suggestions for a different ported box qould be appreciated as well! thanks Quote 1997 Lexus ES300 HU - Pioneer MVH 7350 Processor - Helix DSP Front Stage - JBL P660C Mid/high amp - Alpine PDX-F4 Subs - 1 IA Death Penalty 12 Sub Amp - Cactus Sounds PF300.
cqtama
i have 2 15" t1's in about 7 cubes after sub and bracing displacement tuned to 30hz they drop low, get loud and are still really clean on rock music (i lilsten to everything) why sealed? ported can have just as good sound quality, just gotta build right. my set up is subs up prt back on a slot port. im gunna rebuild soon and see of subs up port back on the driver side will be any louder. but i am very happy with my current set up. just a little greedy on the numbers. wanna get as loud as possible. then again mines in a blazer. if your keeping um trunked i would try and port through the rear deck, behind the rear seats Quote R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. Souldrop
I like sealed mainly because it's very simple to make, and I don't have a lot of experience with ported. This ported is the 1st one i've made, and it could be my construction rather than the box, but I don't think so...It is possible though:p.... and atm port and sub are on same side and have tried facing the box forards, backwards, and sideways...Now another problem it could be is the fact the trunk is completely sealed off from the cabin but I dont think thats it...The rear speakers are in the doors so no easy holes to open up and see whether thats the problem or not...Ive debated whether or not I should make a couple holes in the rear deck for ports or at least make it so the bass can access the cabin without having to go through the back seat and the rear deck plate...ill see what other input I get and I may just port up thru the deck...As it is though im fairly certain its the box whether its the tuning, size, or my construction I dno but thanks man Edited October 12, 2009 by Souldrop Quote 1997 Lexus ES300 HU - Pioneer MVH 7350 Processor - Helix DSP Front Stage - JBL P660C Mid/high amp - Alpine PDX-F4 Subs - 1 IA Death Penalty 12 Sub Amp - Cactus Sounds PF300.
cqtama
dont give up, if at first you dont succeed rebuild! my first ported box was a mess.. at least it was for my buddys car lol. now im pretty good at this shit lol. try using exposports tuning calculater, it'll give you everything, even accounts for displacements usualy the bass passing throuhg the rear seats or deck isnt a huge problem although it would be louder to port it through. just make sure there is space around the box to get to the inside of the car. also, what did you use to fgure out the tuning of the one you have now? program could be a little off.. or may have build slightly different than specs you punched into the program. either way i wouldnt build sealed, just trial and error, everyone does it. best way to learn imo Quote R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. cqtama
also, what are your amp and HU filters set to? could have a big effect, do you use bass boost at all? Souldrop
I used RE's enclosure calc to try and match RF's recommended enclosure tuning and size...had to adjust a bit to fit in trunk. I've got my HU's eq set at the lowest possible for bass and the gain I set using a dmm and then backed it down a lil so I could use the bass knob a bit to turn it up or down...I'll have to check tomorrow for the xover settings as night now and it's been so long since I set it...thinking on it that may actually b the prob and I'll play around with them over next couple days...I kept the same xover settings I used for 2 vintage rf 15"s n a rf prefab 3 way box and figured that it should produce the same sound response roughly....Thanks again man and I'll post up my settings 2moro. *I keep the bass boost at a minimal level most of the time as I am slightly overpowering the sub a bit and trying to avoid a dirty signal... cqtama
no problem thats what this place is for. yea check your crossovers and play around with them, they could be why its getting low but playing highs. definitely better than building a new box just to find out it was your filters and xovers te whole time Quote R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. Souldrop
It's xovered at 80 Hz at the up end...im going to go play with it and the subsonic filter rite now. to see if that changes anything:)...I did raise my HU's eq bass lvl a bit and reset the gains and it sounds a bit fuller....but still gets sloppy on some bass notes but im pretty sure the box needs resealing as its blown the silicone out of some of the larger cracks:( may need to build another box using my buddy's saws rather than lowes (they were off track when I got my wood cut there:() anyway to make it a bit tighter... cqtama
well you definitely want to try not havng cracks like that.. silicone will only do so much, i would only use it to seal the seems up, not to fill in crack, thats gunna cause some air leaks and air leaks sond like shit! lol. yea if your gunna rebuild try getting the cuts as straight as possible. your friends stffs gotta be better than lowes. cc_audio
Build a new box. Silcone should NEVER touch your box if its built correctly. If you need to use silicone, throw your box away and start again. Every joint should be tight and glued with WOOD glue, titebond original, titebond II, titebond III, Titebond molding and trim, and gorilla wood glue all work well (I prefer Titebond Molding and Trim). No caulk, silicone, or construction adhesives! Quote It's all gone! The Celica Build Feedback If I buy something from you, DO NOT USE FEDEX!
