^ dude voltage travels on the surface of the wire not on the whole thing more strands more surface area

so more strands = better

That's only AC current, and if the small strands are touching they will act as a single wire give or take. but it's DC current so cross-sectional diameter is what matters for current flow.

Also, about the voltage thing this is a quote from boon explaining it. "Current is how many electrons are flowing through the wire and voltage is how much energy they carry... " just to clarify voltage/current

Yes it means less gaps so they fit a little more copper/tin per diameter, but If you get a size up in welding wire that would be more copper per foot and thus less resistance. You can buy 4/0 100% pure copper welding wire for the same price as 1/0 knu, it's all marketing.

Scroll half way down this page to check out the 4/0 wire in action. Team Broke Ass F-250 (thanks to jburt09 for the link I stole it from another thread you made.)

well no shit 4/0 will have less resistance than 1/0. thats not even a question... thats the same thing as saying "4awg has more resistance than 1/0" its a given!! and if all the strands are touching then it acts like one piece of copper (as you put it) then the small strands would still be better because its more copper. you contradicted yourself in one post.

and its not about resistance. if you care about the resistance of 1/0, or bigger, wire then youve never done the math. its all about how many amps you can run through it.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

Yeah I guess that was a bit on a contradiction on my part, sorry for that. My main point is that if you got say 2/0 pure copper welding wire it would be just as good or maybe a little better than an equal 1/0 knu wire, but also much cheaper. I just don't really like how people always recommend the wire that is 50% or so more expensive than welding wire yet does the same job. It seems like if people want to know the best wire for the money then people should be less inclined to recommend a name brand wire that just marks up the price because they have "audio wire" hypothetically written on it.
