milesmiles
I just got a second LCD screen to hook up for a dual monitor setup on my laptop. But whenever I hook it in, a kind of electrical interference sound comes on over my speakers. This sound occurs even if the LCD monitor is off; if it is plugged in at all, the sound occurs. Also, when I move things around the screen, or there is a color change, etc, the interference noise changes or gets louder. My audio system is made up of a 240 watt sub amp and a 100 watt receiver. It is hooked up to the laptop with a simple 3.5mm to dual RCA cable. What should I do to solve this problem?
Boon
You have a ground loop. There's a couple of things you could do... see if it goes away when you unplug the laptop's power brick. Does the laptop power cord have a 3-pin plug or 2 pin? 10.x volts fo' life!
