I know there the same model but ones newer. But why spend the extra money on the 693 if all it really looks like they did was changed the I-Face. So im glad another person likes the X493 as do I. the 693 is just this years version of a 692 not the 493. the 493 is the new version of a 492. the 693 has a usb cord that comes out from the back of the deck so you can mount it where ever you want within 2-1/2 feet from hu. the 693 has more options like multicolor display, 5 line display so you don't have to wait for everything to scroll to see what your listening to. the 693 folds down to help keep the dust out which is nice! 693 also has more options in the menus and a really cool x-over feature that the 493 doesnt have. just my $.02. No you have to think of the programming INSIDE the actual CD player. A face plate is like a sticker. Can come off but has no actual means.
