All rite bro, a given speaker reproduces a certain frequency range, for example 100hz to 20,000hz. This example of a speaker isn't used to play heavy bass. A high-pass crossover would be used on this speaker. Crossovers can be made for any frequency desired. But, what the crossover does here is cut off any audio signal below 100hz so that the speaker doesn't try to reproduce it. Because if the full signal was sent to the speaker it would just distort and sound like booty. A subwoofer plays bass and would use a low-pass crossover. If you used a 3-way speaker system, the midrange would use a low-pass and a high-pass crossover.
