Good Port Location on Downfiring Sub?

ive heard a few downfiring home theater subs lately and the bass output is amazing.

sadly, mine is lacking alot. i was thinking about turning the box so the sub will face the floor, same with the port (they fire in the same direction)

i'd like to know if this is a good idea before i go wasting my time cutting up wood for feet/spacers and end up not having it work.

Normally Ive seen home theater subs facing down but port out the side. 2 of my friends have the downfires and one of them thinks it sounds best port facing the back at the wall, the other one thinks his sounds better towards the left (the closer wall to the sub), It may just depend on the shape and size of the room.

I would just try it out and prop it up with something in the corners before you go through the trouble to make spacers and get an idea of what it sounds like.
