Rogers
ok so im playing around with random designs so i can get better at designing and tuning enclosures... normally i try to stay away from L shaped ports but on this particular design... its just not possible... so my question is how does the 90 degree port bend affect port length and how do you go about measuring the bend? any info you guys can give me is much appreciated... n8ball2013
Pretty sure for port correction you add to the length. Use expos box calculator and see what the difference is in it. raytard
draw your port measure down the center!!! say your port is 4 in wide, you will basically be adding 4 inches of length compared to the inside(shorter) wall, 2 inches on each length (cuz its 2 inches to get to the center) if you put up a sketch with dimensions im sure someone could double check it for you Quote Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC
Rogers
ok... so say the port is 4 inches wide... and is supposed to be 28 inches long... so then i would actually measure 32 inches? Rogers
ok... so then i would also have to readjust my volume too right? to compensate for the extra 4 inches? raytard
im guessing if youre saying 28 inches, you have something along the lines (arguments sake) of a 20 inch side (inside the L) with 8 inches along the back of the box. which means the outside of the box would be something like 24.75 long (20+4+.75 for wood) if thats the case, the center would actually be 22 (full length of inside+2 inches to get to center of the bend) and the other side would be 10 (again, 8+2) so yes, 32. if you were measuring the outside (of the inside of the port...) it would actually be 24x12, or 36. in this case you'd subtract 4, again because you're trying t center the measurement. only pic i could find, ignore his little 45deg calc unless you're doing that too, but this should give you an idea Edited February 8, 2010 by raytard Quote Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC
Rogers
ok... i got the measuring part understood now... ok so then from what im understanding... the port displacement wont change... we are just adding the 4 inches for sake of center measurements... right? n8ball2013
if you are adding on to your port your vent is longer it will change the displacement of the vent. huh
ok... i got the measuring part understood now... ok so then from what im understanding... the port displacement wont change... we are just adding the 4 inches for sake of center measurements... right? draw your portmeasure down the center!!! say your port is 4 in wide, you will basically be adding 4 inches of length compared to the inside(shorter) wall, 2 inches on each length (cuz its 2 inches to get to the center) Skip the last part of that - it threw you off. He was just saying if you measure the outside of the port, it will be different than the inside of the port. That is why you measure down the center. EDIT - oops - I see you have another thread and are on track. Edited February 9, 2010 by huh
