Tek Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 For the Big 3 upgrade (battery to alternator), when I fuse it it can I use a 150A Fuse? Right now my alternator is 105A and I hope to do a cheap upgrade to a 125A alternator soon. Would a 150A fuse work? Quote
Memphis87 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 it will work, but you should really look for a 125 fuse just in case. Quote 2 18" dc lvl 5s with extra spider 1 Crescendo bc5500 4 g31 batteries Dual dc power alternator kit Youtbe: http://www.youtube.com/user/hulbert87
brsteinbach Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 What size wire are you running? brsteinbach Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) it will work, but you should really look for a 125 fuse just in case. You don't go by how many amps your alt puts out you go by what size wire your running. Edit: Because you could run 1/0 and have the 150a fuse and it may/probably will blow, but you could run 4 gauge and run a 300 amp fuse and melt your wire and possibly start a fire. ISO Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 If I rember rite you fuse that wire to the fuse rating of the wire. Me personally like a 150 amp fuse for 4 gauge or a 300 amp fuse for 1/0. Quote Isobaric - Refers to the practice of coupling two drivers together to make them act as one. X2 but I try to keep it on the safe side and go more near 100 amp on my 4 gauge. I'd rather blow a fuse then burn my car lol. Edit: Not saying 150 isn't safe I'm just paranoid about my wiring. Tek Posted February 12, 2010 Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 I'll be running 1/0. Current Alt is 105A and future one is 125A Quote
brsteinbach Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Alt size doesn't really matter. lol. Just get a 250-300amp fuse. ISO Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Like I said, I'm under the impression that you fuse to the size of the wire and not the alt.
