Amps for my RE18s

I'm new to the forum so thanks in advance for the help.

I have just started the rebuild on my standard cab chevy pick up. I have two RE Audio XXX18's and I am planing on using Digital Designs S2a amps to run them. Two amps per woofer, bridged, one per 2 ohm coil. Is there anyone who has experience with this combination? I havent used these woofers or amps before so I just wanted some advice before I drop the money on the amps.

Are you entirely serious, S2a's.... do you know how much those things cost? For all of 2200wrms... they're FULL RANGE amps. Made for running like, 4 sets of really high end speakers.

They are hideously inefficient compared to class D amps. To make that 2200w they probably pull 4kw... so you're talking about needing ~16kw of electrical support to run just 8kw of power... which is too much for those subs anyway.

Get 2 SAZ-3000D's and call it done.

Boon, thanks for the response. Yes I'm pretty serious about it. I like the way AB amps sound better than class D. I was planing on using the S2a's for the door speakers too. I know that some major electrical upgrades will be in order with this option. I just dont have any experience with DD equipment and needed some feed back about the sub/amp combination. I will consider some other options, maybe a pair of DDM4's for the subs.

This truck is not a daily driver, just a show piece, something to have some fun with. I will start a build thread as soon as I can get some spare time.

Do M4s. You will never hear the difference between Class A/B and Class D on subs except the Class D will be louder.

2 M4s and a single S2a to run the fronts, that would be sweeeeeeet.

I mean yeah, sure, a pair of S2a's will slam the crap out of those subs, they are monster amps. But it's just an almost pointless combination - even if you wanted all the amps to look the same, the M4 has the same style heatsink as the S2a.
