I decided to do my doors(It is a 1995 GMC Jimmy 2 Door) this is a first attempt at glassing I have never done glass before We finally got some nice sunny weather here so I talked my friend Greg into getting this started so we smoked a couple scoobs and the rest they say is history. this is what I started with.....(there's a few steps missing here and there but that would make this a boring thread) We then proceeded to scuff and drill holes....... Then we cut some fleece blankets up and resined them up(1.88 @ XSCargo)...... I Shake Windows..... 1995 GMC Jimmy 2-door 4x4(Nothing special other than its dam loud!) Alpine CDA-7893 Head Unit Visonik 5 1/4" door mounted mid and pillar mounted 2" high with crossover also a VBF (German made) 3" door mounted tweeter Kaption Rear 4x6" 2-way 2-12" Audiobahn dual 4ohm subs Power Acoustik SL2-1000 1000 watt 2 channel Pioneer 4 channel Errors have been made. This is whats going in the doors....... We then started to position the rings for the mids and tweets the tweeter pods are made from 3 inch pvc pipe...... This is as far as we got today(April 13th 2010 5:30 pm) because I have to be able to use these panels as I build them...... More work to be done(like obviously) Wednesday we can only work on this about 3-4 hours a day and like I said I am using the panels after each day. BuBz Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 UP DATE Wednesday April 14th, 2010. So we started up again after a few scoobs and a coffee this is where i left off yesterday We let the dogs play.....(no build log is complete without pics of the mutts!) Koda Coronna We then proceeded to wrap the drivers panel after painstakingly making a wood frame for the inside on the panel to staple the fleece too (and of course i didn't take pics! Grrrrrr)... Oh and seeing as how I put up pics of my friend Greg he told me to put up one off me so..... Laid on the first coat of resin..... So that's about it for now as I ran out of resin and money for a few days so it looks like I am at a stand still until I buy more resin. Next step will be to wrap the passengers door and lay on first coat then second coat the drivers at the same time. Now the finished product will be blended into the rest of the panel and painted but as I cant find texture paint here(ordering online is not an option), I haven't decided if I'm going to clear it or do it matte, that's a ways off yet. So if anyone in Ontario Canada knows where to get this infamous SEM Texture Paint (or the equivalent)please let me know. What about wrapping it in something any ideas?? Then we sat down and had some..... And a couple of scoobies... I have been tossing the idea around about doing my a-pillars and remembered a post I had saw somewhere on the net and we came up with this idea..... BuBz Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 The tweeters will sit about 1/4 of an inch off the dash to make for room to take dash off if needed.So on Friday I will play with where I am going to put them and get them mounted to the a-pillars.If anyone knows where the post is on the tweeters with PVC pipe I could use a link( I have seen the ones made from PVC Caps). BuBz Posted April 19, 2010 Author Report Posted April 19, 2010 Friday April 16th 2010 Today found me working on my A-Pillars.....BUT.....Before that we had to start things off right..... Then we mounted the rings to the A-pillars..... Waited and sanded with 40 grit..... Then we added another coat of short hair..... Tried the tweets just for good measure..... Sanded the second coat..... Tried them on for size..... Added a little filler, hit that with 80 grit then primed..... That's it until Monday Look for updates then.....4 Days 4 hours per day, I think I'm doing OK...
