Enclosure question?

i have a question about getting a new box.since im not upgrading till mid summer i wanted to get just a good cheap prefab box but ive heard on atleast one other post that the subs i have might sound like crap in a prefab ported box.im currently using a sealed box that i want to replace.i have 2 12 inch audiobahn high excursions 600 watt max subs and a power akoustic 1200 gothic amp.does any one know if i should stay with a sealed box or go ported.

im not skilled in building boxes and have no access to the tools.just wanted to buy a box thats already made.wanted to go ported but dont know if my subs would sound good in it.not gonna spend a bunch of time and money if im just gonna sell it in a few months but my current box has taken a beating and wanted to know about going ported with my subs.ive seen boxes online for cheap and my system is weak so a prebuilt box should handle it,then again im a noob when it comes to car audio

There is a big difference when going from sealed to ported. Prefab boxes are not my thing, but seeing as how you have 5 reasons why you can't build a box of your own, then I guess there really isn't a much of a point in trying to convince you. This is where a noob will experience that fork in the road that takes him from noobism to a real car audio enthusiast. I would never, ever, ever use a prefab box though.

your right!i just dont wanna spend much time on this system cause in mid july im gettin a new car and new system.this site is great and plan on uping my audio iq.i just have a shitty hyundai accent with a basic system and im gettin rid of it soon.im sure the guys at rpm speed and custom can help me out.im hoppin the re audio sex series subs will be a step up.since there 1200 watt rms and my audiobahns are 250 watt rms.

$23 for wood, as well as learning something > $50 prefab or more and not learning anything.

skill saw, screws, and a jig saw = box build. hell you dont even have to have a drill, i assembled a box with a hammer and screw driver. start the screws with the hammer, then twist away

I had an RE SX 18 and it blew the box apart because I was stupid and didn't brace it, which blew the speaker. There is a lot to learn and you will as you go along. If you get an amp that is 1000 watts or over, just update your electrical system and be prepared to spend money.

yeah gonna have to.the amp i plan on getting is 1640 rms its a pre matched system from audiosavings.com.i have alot to learn!!maybe my decision will change by mid july!!!probly just gonna go with a sealed box cause my subs make enough noise to rattle my brain as is.later on out with the old in with the new. you guys are great!im sure ill learn a few things.but even though i have low wattage my subs do bump in my little car
