victor8881 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I'm running a trunk application in my car, and I was trying to understand the reasoning behind enclosure positioning in trunk applications. Currently, my sub and port is firing to the rear of my trunk. Just wondering why most trunk application fire the sub and port to the rear? If I was to turn the enclosure around and fire the sub and port into the cab through the pull down seat would I get a positive effect or a negative effect? What if I remove my back seat and mounted my box in the cab rather than the trunk and fired the sub either upwards to the roof with the port firing to the roof or fire the port forward with the port firing forward, would any of these ideas give any positive or negative effect for a set up such as mine? I was googling the matter to see if anyone had experimented with a setup similar to mine, and I found a guy on youtube that claimed that putting the box mounted in the back of the car opposed to the trunk and firing the sub and port forward to the front was giving him the best SQ and SPL numbers. I also see picture of people with the enclosure firing forward from the trunk with the port cfiring through the back seat from the pull down.. Let me know if any of these idea are worth even trying... I'm in the middle of a major wiring upgrade so I'm will to experiment on the box positioning if it's worth trying. HU: Kenwood KDC-MP745U. bassl0va Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 If the box is just floating around in the trunk (eg, in the middle of it) it's general practice to face it backward. Turing it around will have a negative effect (most likely, but in some cases maybe not) unless you seal it off from the trunk. such as thor (Rob) and his DC lvl5 10"s. this is the loudest trunk method. Otherwise your seat removal method (half wall) is great too, not sure how it compares though. maybe louder, maybe not. I have a half wall at the moment with sub up port up and it's great, plays really low and sounds great. not much point doing a half wall unless you have 15"s or 18"s though. unlimitedwreckswithbass Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Half wall would be great, what subs are you planning on though? i run with a local team and every one on the team (about 25 ppl)all our boxes are subs up and port up in the pick up trucks and in the cars and vans subs up and port back to the rear and what that does is taking the sound pressure and reflecting it off the back of ur car and going toward the meter most ppl on the team have the port about 1-3 inches from the back door and we are posting numbers from the 140's -159.9's with 1 or 2 subs and amps hopes this helps
