We\'ve got an older house with an attic fan. The fan has not worked since we moved in about 8 years ago. I\'ve talked about getting it fixed for years, but haven\'t done anything with it so far. Yesterday I got up on a step ladder to test it out and see if there was even any power going to it. I used one of those simple testers with the light that comes on when there\'s power.

With the switch in the OFF position the tester light came on. When I flipped it to the ON position, the light went out. So there\'s obviously power still going to it, but why did the light go out when I switched it ON? The switch is not upside down.

I\'m assuming the fan is bad since it won\'t turn on.

wires in the back are prolly switched around. or maybe there are 2 switches for it so u can turn it off and on in 2 different places. i would guess the fan is bad if it doesnt turn on, make sure all electrical connections are good

could disconnect the wires and connect them to something like a light just to test the wires, if the light turns on the fan is bad. Will the blades spin manually
