HU full volume,not clipping

Recommended Posts

i have a kenwood ddx812 hu and just set the volume with 1KHz 0dB on my oscope at the

RCA. My HU doesnt clip at full volume(35/35), my question is even though

it doesnt clip at 35/35, is it wise to set the rest of the system(amp,processor,etc..)

and play music at that volume. Even though not clipping ,would s/n rise at that volume?

Thank in advance

check it again at 50hz and 100hz. i havnt tested a hu but i have found that an unclipped signal at 1khz doesnt mean an unclipped signal at a lower frequency, when i scoped an amp. i have a video on here of that if you want to see what im talking about.

ya thats why i added 100hz. incase the hu was crossing over any lows. let me know what happens.

if the hu isnt clipping then its all good. only reason i wouldnt do it is if a song comes along that was recorded at a lower volume then you cant turn it up any more. tuning with the volume a little lower could give you room to play around but thats all up to you.

Since you know that you are not clipping at the HU, you need to go to the next item inline (eq,crossover, etc...) and check the signal with the oscope. If you get all the way to your amps with no clipping, then you adjust the gains in your amp until the output clips, then back it down till its unclipped again. Steve has a video tutorial in the videos section where he shows checking the HU, then the amp.

Cool I will be doing that but my main question is even though it's not clipping would you get more noise in your system at that volume?

only you can tell that. some hu's will have static the more you turn it up and some wont. just press pause and turn the volume up, see what happens.
