He was saying in his eyes it's better to get an amp that is capable of having more output power than the sub can handle. You wouldn't tune the amp so it would be pushing out what it is capable of, but instead you would be tuning the amp to push out what the sub can handle.

kranny i was responding to the zx1500.1 comment because i know they usually have a higher rated power kinda like rockford amps. I do understand what you mean you want to have wiggle room so you get clean undistorted power to the sub but i would think a zx1500.1 would be pushing it on a stock fi ssd.

ahh ok my bad then. any theoretical amp will work with any sub. (i know some people disagree with my next statement but) alls you have to do is tune the gain correctly and you will be fine.

ya i understand that contrary to my prior belief the gain is not a volume control I never really realized how little I knew until i started reading these forums a few months back. took me a long time to join up and post because there was so much to be learned from just reading. ive looked at a few hifonics amps~12-1500rms and even like a rockford t1k and i think they would do fairly well for the ssd if tuned right.

yea i was the same way. a little hint on the brutus lines of hifonics (and others i dont know, maybe). they dont do rated power, even if they say they are CEA rated, they do less than stated. for the 1600 watt version amp for example, it probably does like 1200rms really.

ya I kinda figured for that price they are most likely overrated a bit but for 229 a 1600 watt amp that does 1200 still seems like a pretty good deal to me.
