Pioneer

I apologize for this being a rant, but I have been doing an install in my car.

I built a t-line and have no more trunk room :) so I had to move my amps to under my driver and passenger seats.

As I'm testing my amps out to make sure they have good grounds, no broken connections or anything I notice that I didn't plug in my rcas on my new US amps 4channel.

So I plug them in while the head unit is on... little did I know is that this is a huge "no-no" for Pioneer head units because in the circuitry they have something

called a "Pico" (peco?) fuse that if you plug or unplug an rca while the unit is on it blows and then tries to ground the head-unit through your rcas (FML).

When this stupid fuse blows you get a shit ton of engine noise -_-.

right now I have a band-aid fix of grounding out the two rcas I'm not using right now with a piece of wire to the chassis of my car and that gets rid of most of it but I will need to use those rcas soon for my new RE comps going in my front doors.

Can anyone show me a good way to give my rca's a good ground or describe it?

im surprised that you know about the pico fuse but you dont know about the "fix".

basically what people in your situation do is, they take a piece of speaker wire, take the insulation off, and wrap/snake it around the - shielding of the female rca jacks on the headunit itself, then screw the wire into the headunit chassis (not the little flimsy box shielding that you sometimes use to mount the headunit, the headunit body itself). someone will chime in here with the all famous grounding pic.

I just honestly couldn't find the fix. I heard about the fuse from my local shop, I may try to fix the fuse one day if I can figure out its specs (my college has the oven and the solder and stuff for tiny parts).

But seriously, just snake wire around the female rcas and screw into chassis?

I just honestly couldn't find the fix. I heard about the fuse from my local shop, I may try to fix the fuse one day if I can figure out its specs (my college has the oven and the solder and stuff for tiny parts).

yea the outside of the rca jack not the inside lol...i saw a video on how to fix that fuse and you basically have to dissasemble the ENTIRE cd player, take out the cd drive unit etc etc. its on the main board itself lol. it was friggin ridiculous.

that same thing happen to me in my Sony head-unit but the rca just blew nothing else i know that sounds weird but i just replaced the rca's with some new ones and problem solved

that does sound ridiculous :(

Maybe I won't do that, and maybe just get a new HU instead... lol
