Amp Getting hot fast

Hey im new to car audio and this is the first time i have run into this.

So i have a basic system in my 2000 Jetta its a 1000 watt kenwood 2 channel amp running a 12 diamond m6 , running at 2ohm.

The amp gets extremely hot and fast and will go in to a protect mode, and wont do anything for easily 12 hours regardless if i disconnect all power.

I was thinking its a bad ground but I'm unsure, any input and advice is appreciated.

if its 2 ohms bridged, then theres your problem. you're overloading the amp. if not, then your gain is most likely cranked hella up.

no not bridged and gain is only about half

gain at half could mean you're not clipping or you're clipping the living shit out of your amp. doesnt mean anything unless you actually tuned the gains with an oscilloscope or DMM. its a kenwood and like all their amps are Notorious B.I.G's for overheating.

what places can tune my gains for me

yourself. look in the electrical section or the amp section (i forget which, or someone can link with a picture to that volt chart with the instructions)
