Current system: Kenwood excelon 994 head unit Boston Acoustics SE60 Professional 6.75 components powered by a RF 300.2 2 Alpine Type R 10's in a ported box powered by a RF P1000.1bd 2 fusion audio encounter 6x9's (rear filler good deal at a garages sale) New system plan: keep excelon 994 keep Boston Acoustics SE 1 DC audio lvl 4xl powered by a crescendo audio 3k From here I will later expand the system to a second lvl 4xl (wire the amp at .5 ohm) then later getting a second 3k. Other options, for additional midbass i'm thinking about adding some boston acoustic 8" drivers to the doors. And here is something that i haven't seen yet! I'm thinking it would work, maybe its been done but..... Instead of using an amplifier to power the left and right channels for my doors, how about using 2 amps? a left channel amp and a right channel amp. This way I could mount my amps IN THE DOOR PANNELS XD that would cut down on wiring! I would only need to run 1 rca, power and maybe a ground to each door. 2 500 watt 2 channel amps would work perfectly, the components would recieve 125 watts and 250 will go to the 8. My goal here overall is to use the small space in my truck as efficiently as possible. My truck originally had the capacity to seat 2 in the back, currently it seats 0, and i'd like to be able to fit 1 person back there. I want to mount my subs in the rear side panels and seats as much as possible. I have a low income also lol, thats while im doing this in steps. Starting with 1 12 behind the drivers seat with one amp, and finishing with 2 12's and 6000 watts XD. I basicly have no experience and would appreciate any input! I need ideas for speakers still, I have the boston components, those will be up front. Then i don't know what to do from there. i was thinking 8" drivers in the doors as well to provide additional midbass, OR they could go in the back... somewhere. heres some pictures! Expand the left edge so that it reaches the back wall, and extend the bottom edge to reach the floor, so I can build an enclosure that fits partialy in the panel. Instead of modifying my original door panels, I'm going to attempt to make entirely new panels. This way, I don't have to worry about messing up my originals, and if something goes wrong with the new ones, I can scrap them and start over. Also, I want this to be expandable, so if I add speakers, i'll be able to build yet another panel set. The stock doors are EXTREMELY simple, 1 small piece of molded plastic for the speaker grill, a basic arm rest, a top trim piece, and the main panel, a 1/4" thick piece of a pressed wood composite board, seems like a mix between mdf and masonite. I'm going to duplicate this panel in masonite, replace the plastic grill and lower panel with a fiberglass speaker housing, and reuse the stock trim panel and arm rest. These panels are going to hold only my 6.75" components. When I get more money i'll make a new set to hold a 250X2 amp and 8" midbass drivers. Lastly with my new panels, i'm going to make a new mounting system. I'm going to either use plastic threaded grommets, or install threaded inserts into pieces of mdf, and mount them on the other side of the door bracing, giving me something to mount to. By kyleandrew at 2010-06-23 By kyleandrew at 2010-06-23 Yep, thats a rust hole... THROUGH THE FRAME thats the gas tank on the left, you can see the leaf spring mounts up right next to it. Sooooo.... took it to the 'yota dealer to have the frame inspected, and told me that yes, there is indeed a hole in the frame so the vehicle is deemed unsafe. Toyota is going to buy the truck back from me (at KBB excellent condition x 1.5) Which is going to give me a LOT more money to work on the next system but also puts me without a vehicle, although they did give me this little car. I'm going to be a freshman this yeah at the University of Toledo for electrical engineering. I'm going to commute, its about a 20-25 min drive to campus. This is my second tacoma, this same thing happened to my first one lol. I could buy an '01 or newer tacoma, which doesn't have the rust problem, still an extended cab, possibly a manual. Or get a car, I'm REALLY into toyotas, so i'm looking at the MR2, Celica GT, and Supras. I'm worried though that with an mr2 i won't have room for a system any advice on vehicle selection? I'm NOT getting an astro van lol. I'm torn, i like these trucks, but then again i like sporty cars, although in 8" of unplowed snow, i'd REALLY miss my 4wd. 01Tac0ma Posted June 7, 2011 Report Share Posted June 7, 2011 Get another tacoma for sure man, the framse rust issue sucks really bad but hey at least they dont shit you on the whole ordeal. just shop around for one and you'll find it but dont be scared to jump on it cause they go very quick! It was a nice start though and im very interested to see what you get next and start building up... I also have a Tacoma (01) and love it, & one day plan to use those jump seat spaces as fiberglass enclosures for some 8's. Good Luck though with whatever you end up with.
