trying to calculate a round port with minimal noise

Recommended Posts

i made a fiberglass box that i originally planned on keeping sealed. i threw some power at it the other day & it's not as loud as my ported boxes. now i'm thinking i should port it. the box is roughly 1.24 cubic feet (using the 2/3 rule) for a single 12 before displacement. the manufacturer specs for a ported box is 1.13 cubic feet. i want to tune this fiberglass one to 43Hz (for daily driver) with a 3" port which comes to 6.11 inch length. my question is would those specs give me port noise or will i be fine? i was also wondering if anyone knew how i can calculate this for myself in the future. any help would be much appreciated.

well i've noticed more port noise from smaller-than-usual port volumes... also from ports that are more rectangular in shape rather than square. the closer to square you can get it the better (obviously they'll always be rectangles, but still). but I've only been in car audio for 2 years or so, so thats just my 2 cents
