Dub7Banger Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Ok well i've narrowed my choices down and have strayed away from Fi entirely, now I've got my eyes set on some DC subs. First one, is a Level 5 18 with dual .7 coils, the other is a DC 18XL with dual 2's from Joshua on CACO. Don't wanna throw Rob's price out there, but the XL could be mine for 300. Price not so much an issue as this. As stated the Level 5 is gonna be dual .7's, and the XL is gonna be Dual 2's. I plan to hook up one sub to an AQ2200d, so if I get the level 5 i'd have to run it at 1.4 and because of my lack of knowledge about the flow of electric etc, etc, I don't know what it would be seeing at 1.4ohms. Where as if I get the XL, I can wire it down to 1 ohm, and it'll see 2200w (I think, maybe a bit less) on my stock 12v system with just my big 3 upgrade and some sort of XS or Kinetic battery in the back. What would you guys do? The Level five is appealing because well, it's a level five. The XL is appealing because i'd have better knowledge of wtf i'm doing (sorta) while hooking it up. I would also like some feedback as to what I should do electrically? I don't wanna get an HO alt at this point (because THAT is a bit out of my price range) What batts could/should I get to keep either sub and the AQ amp happy? I've also contemplated grabbing a Crescendo 3k, but again it's a little more pricey. But if I get the Crescendo 3k i'd be a little more comfortable trying to hook up the Level 5. It would also allow you to get full potential out of your amp. You'll want to make sure that whatever amp you use is fine with it though, I know crescendo is, not sure about AQ, most likely fine with it though. As for electrical, what amperage is your stock alt? My stock alt, from what Kyle at DC power told me is a stock 170 which actually sounds pretty high to me, but I dunno. All I know is I don't have 400+ to push for a HO alt right now. And the deal behind the DC Level 5 is that Rob or one of his Associates ran 8 of them in buffalo at a bassrace, still in mint condition, just no longer a use for em I guess, and he can sell me one super cheap because of that. So I don't think a recone is really an option since I BELIEVE Rob lives in the general area that Rusty does, and the sub would be shipped from Buffalo. Not that you really need a HO alt for 2k especially since you have a awesome stock one, just yet some good batteries. I don't get why you say a recone isn't an option? You could always get 2 amps and run one per coil. Well i'm really going about it the cheaper way, otherwise i'd just get a Crescendo 3k and run the Lvl 5 at 1.4 so it'd still see around 2300-2500 watts. And I recon that's why I haven't asked rusty about a recone, because 1. No clue what it would cost me to recone from dual .7's to a dual 2. 2. It would probably add onto shipping since it would have to be shipped from Buffalo to Rob, then from Rob to Me. I have a built in voltmeter that floats 13.3-14, 14 being just around start up. I believe i'm gonna grab an XS D6500 to throw in the trunk, and a Crescendo 3k to run the Level 5, just wanna make sure my electrical will be somewhat up to par.
