Ok so I figured I post quite a lot on here but nobody has really seen anything I've done...

So I decided to pull all the random pics off my phone and make a little thread of odd bits and pieces I've been working on. There's a few cars, amps, a box or 2, blah blah. I'll update it when I remember to, if people give a damn about what's in it.

I'll try to put each 'build'-ish thing in a separate post, but this one needs a pic. So here's the shop dog, sitting inside a sub box, wearing Prada sunglasses.

She is a Samoyed called Mogwai, and she is a damn cool dog.

Ok this first one can be amp-related junk. I fix amps from time to time. Here's a few I've worked on:

Here is a Soundstream EGA-2000D that came to me with a blown power supply:

You can see here that several power MOSFETs and their gate resistors are burnt.

Also over here, in the drive circuitry for the power supply, were a couple of bad parts. Not sure if you can see them too well in the photo.

So we pull out all the power MOSFETs. I could have just replaced the burnt ones, but that's a kinda quick and dirty fix. May as well do it properly I guess.

And then fix up the drive circuit. Before the amp wouldn't turn on. Now it does, and the drive looks like this. Nice.

So we pull out the IRF3205 stick and grab a dozen or so

Chucked them in (after replacing the burnt resistors), tidied up a couple of dry solder joints, checked the output section over then fired it up. Amp goes great now. No pics of it in repaired condition though.

Here's an amp I bought really cheap second-hand on an auction site. Seller said it worked but was AS-IS. To me, that means broken. Lo and behold, it didn't work. So I opened it up, and found this awesome bit of hackery:

Yup, they'd burnt a track and tried to solder in a piece of wire instead. Shame the problem was that the transistor over there was bad. This is why you shouldn't let random people who happen to know which end of a soldering iron you hold look at your amps.

Here's a diode test on that transistor

Dead short circuit, 0 ohms.

And after I pulled that transistor out

(reading off the transistor in parallel with it)

Replaced both transistors with matched ones and repaired the burnt track, amp goes well again. Added to my hoard in the shed...

Here's why I don't like JLs. They're great amps but a pig to fix.

See that tiny little snapped in half resistor roughly in the middle of the image? That was causing this amp to not work. Bleh.

All I've got pics of at the moment is a 6x15 SPL box.

I'm working on a little 10" 4th order bandpass at the moment so I'll snap some pics of that as I go, hopefully.

Here's the finished product... 6x DD2515's on a 10kd in a Subaru WRX hatchback

Here's some of the slightly interesting bits.

It fits a whole dog in it:

I used 4 gauge wire from brass bolts through the end, to distro blocks for the speaker wire. Made everything much tidier and easy to wire up

It had a bunch of port area

Internally the box was braced with 2x4's. The port met one of the braces to stop it from flexing.

Another few angles.

Getting it in the car was... tricky

Would have made a great ricer wing though.

Here's the back of the Subaru when I picked the subs up. Little DD 10 daily sub in there too.

This is the car fully set up. Threw some Cusco coilovers in there to help with the weight and to drop it a little. I liked how this car sat, I kinda miss it now

The dog approved of the system.

This did a 150.7 with minimal tuning on music (42hz if I remember right) and could do a solid hairtrick. I pulled it all out and sold the car about a week later, though

Unfortunately this build got canned shortly after this. Other priorities took over and this was only being built for 1 show really anyway.

BMW SQL build.

The aim of this was to be practical, loud, and sound GREAT.

Gear going in was:

DLS Nobeliums

2x DD3512

E-Audio 1000D x2

E-Audio 480AB x1

Response 2 channel thing x1

A hell of a lot of dynamat

A couple of batteries

Some 0 gauge

Lots of expanding foam.

The car already had the highs installed and the deadening done (2-3 layers everywhere) so it was time for a boot install.

We went for a ported box firing forward sealed off to prevent the bootlid rattling.

So a frame of 4x2s was fitted and foamed into the back between the wheel arches to form the space for our box to go in

A lot of foam went into this. We also totally filled the underside of the parcel tray to try and seal the boot off as much as possible

The crossovers and the small un-matching amp were installed in the tyre well. BMWs are great with their batteries in the back.

Added a second battery in the pocket where the old CD changer etc used to be

Fast forward A LOT and there's trim panels for the sides and an amp rack, plus a false floor with a removeable panel to allow access to the little amp and crossovers etc.

These have all been trimmed in black leathery vinyl with foam backing. I might actually get it mostly back together tomorrow, I'll post some more pics if I do.

There's a Tsunami 10F cap going in the pocket on the left, for a bit of bling, a voltage display, and just to break up the mass of black a bit. I'll probably add a couple of blue projector LEDs shining on the amp rack, the theme in the boot is quite black-silver-blue. Should look good.

The car is pretty good looking too, it's painted in a very deep, wet looking black with a grim reaper airbrushed onto the bonnet. Plus it's sitting on dubs. I'll take some photos with a good camera when it's finished and been washed

The new toy - 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Goes brum, needs a wash.

An RF sub a customer killed - killed it SO good the coil fell off the former! Crispy.

That sub has the biggest pole vent ever. That's a 15" sub, for reference sake.
