install deck

hey guys do you need any special part in order to install a deck to a 2002 cadillac escalade. i say this because my dad took his truck to an audio shop to ask how much they would charge him to install a deck he has an some subs with an amp and they tolled him that he needed some part in oder for them to install it. idk the part name i didn't go with and he doest know much about audio. and without that part i guess it can mess up the computer system or something like that. they were asking $370 to install with the so called part and all the wiring, labor. so my question is is there really something you need to install the deck in the cadillac with the system and cause no future harm to the truck. thanx for any help.
