brian123 x Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Ok so I put in my 2 12 inch MTX Blue Thunders... And now the left subwoofer is not working. It was working before. I dont know what to do. I checked the connections on the amp. I had it pretty loud but I dont know why its not working now? the subwoofer is not froze up it still moves and everything. but someone just help me. This is my first system ever. Please help.
Guest Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 get a digital multimeter, set it to ohms, and put it on the subwoofer thats not working. if it doesnt read something like 3 or 4 ohms and reads something super high or reads nothing at all (0 possibly) then its blown edit: reasons for a woofer to stop working, 95% of the time, is clipping the amplifier by either turning bassboost on, putting the gain too high, using the LOUD setting on the headunit or mp3 player, or putting the bass level on the headunit up.

I have the gain like in the middle. But anyway putting the meter on the back of the subs with where the wires are at? or putting it on the amp how can i tell if the left channel is fried on the amp?

Then I test it?

But anyway putting the meter on the back of the subs with where the wires are at? or putting it on the amp how can i tell if the left channel is fried on the amp? unhook them so theres no wire going to it. then put DMM leads to it. and to test left channel, put multimeter to AC volts (V~) and see if theres the same amount of voltage coming out of the right and left channels. oh and why did you choose a 2 channel to power subwoofers? especially 2
